Oxidation / Discoloration of Gold Nautilus Anyone?
Hi guys,
My 5712R after spending a year in the safe (Patek wooden box, I might add) has developed spots and discolouration on the case and deployant. After trying to cleaning it with some dish soap and warm water as I usually do when it was worn regularly, the spots only got darker and more prominent. Has anyone had the same issues? Is this a regular occurrence with rose gold? Or is this an isolated case with Patek? How would you guys try to solve the issue? |

Gold/silver cleaner not dishsoap. Company called Silvex sells small tubes. Might be on amazon. Have used it on gold, bronze and silver with issues similar to yours, cleaned right up

18ct gold oxidises. It's nothing irregular. Most likely down to the environment inside your safe.
Some solvents can reduce it, and a proper polish will remove it. |

Exactly, safes can get very humid if not opened and ventilated. I place a few silica bags inside our safe to keep the environment dry and no issues.

I kept my 5711-1R away in a bank safe as well for almost a year. No discoloration. But I store it in the PP carrier case provided by Patek.

I wipe my gold watches with a silver polishing cloth.
Just a light wipe to convert the oxidation.
