Just keep your Patek 5712. The moment to take over the VC you may have issues when you get tired of it and want to go back to your 5712.

I was just being told that there are maybe 15 VC Overseas Tourbillon coming to the US this year. That’s a lot rarer than a 5712...

And yet only 5 people want it

:)

Yes or No?

Please notice even VC calls it a 'novelty' - stick with PP, would be too hard to replace at least for the next couple years

It’s a STUNNING watch in person... the depth of the blue dial is mesmerizing. I played with it for a while at a recent event.

If you can do a straight trade I would seriously consider it. Yes, you’ll likely still take a hit on resale, but I tend to focus less on that and more on what will make me happier having on my wrist — isn’t that what it’s all about? You’d still end up with more in your pocket than the 5712 MSRP

Much fairer pic, otherwise its all just money talk, as ever.

The VC is stunning. I would actually do the trade but with less cash

I’m with skanse; if you can reduce the cash component and you will enjoy the VC more than the 5712....

Leaving economics aside I wouldn't contemplate that trade. The issue is that I could wear a 5712 pretty much all the time no matter if I am in a suit or in swimming trunks. In contrast there are few occasions I wouldn't feel awkward wearing that VC Overseas Tourbillon. Too complicated and not restrained enough to fit my style.

Yes, this is a no brainer.

The 5712 is a nice watch backed by an exhorbitant amount of hype. It is a true $45k watch at its core, regardless of the inflated gray market prices. The VC tourbillon is a true piece of horological excellence and is a true $100k watch, not a $45k watch inflated to near $100k because of demand.

This is a rare opportunity to use the grossly inflated value of the 5712 to your advantage to actually obtain a significantly rare piece of haute horology.

It really sounds like like OP wants to go for the tourb. Try to do the deal as a straight trade.

A quick online search and you can find the same watch sold for 80k. The watch may be rare, but people are not fighting to purchase one. I would stay away from this deal or negotiate a better one.

I personally wouldn’t given the massive hype around the 5712. Will the hype come down? Most likely yes. But at least the demand will still be there.

The VC altogether sits, wears and feels completely different from PP, and unless you are going for a bolder look and feel of the watch, you may miss the sleek and low profile feel of the nautilus.

VC May have more appeal initially but not sure it will have the same staying power if you get bored down the road and try to trade value for value.

The dial colour reminds me a low end seiko and the tourbillon looks very off to me in this particular setup,
If you are in love go for it but pls do not think you hit the jackpot.
Peace

I love that VC. For the 5711, I’d offer a straight trade. For the 5712, I wouldn’t do it. It’s my grail. But if you want to do it. Do it for a straight trade.

The VC will be worth 50K after you buy it. Maybe less. The VC should be offered at an even trade to you but you will still end up losing 25K on this deal.
