URGENT: 5512 Potential Purchase (PCG, 2 line gilt, exclamation dial)

Came across this watch, and wondering what the experts think. The seller is local to me, and is opening a vintage shop in a very nice part of town in a couple months. His online store has several, what look to be, very nice pieces.

The 5512 is very new to me. I spent much of the weekend researching, but not sure of my comfort level.

How does everything look on this particular piece? Any flags? It is advertised as an all original 1962 variant.

Brand Rolex
Model Name Submariner
Model # 5512 PCG
Case Diameter 40 mm
Age Vintage
Condition Very good!
Brand new MSRP (if all factory) ??? - extremely rare

Features

Movement Rolex 1530 automatic mechanical

Dial single level, black gilt dial - very worn Mercedes hands.

Bezel Type Black, bi-directional rotating dive bezel - with pearl

Crystal/Glass/Lens Acrylic with some light scratches. Not perfect.

Case stainless steel 40 mm diameter, Rolex 700 screw down crown, back opens with special Rolex case back opener

Band Stainless steel Rolex bracelet which has been heavily polished. The polishing is not perfect. There is some moderate stretch at the fold lines and some signs of corrosion in the cracks.

Wrist Size It will fit up to a 7" wrist

(On most Metal bracelets, we have additional links that can be purchased & added to fit a larger wrist size. Each link adds approx 1/4 inch).

Box Authentic Vintage Rolex Box in worn condition
Papers None.

Oh, and what would you pay? PM me if you like.

I have until tomorrow this time to decide. Seller is also offering a 1 year warranty.

Funny, I sort of had a bad vibe when I talked to the seller in person. He offered to end the auction early and let me buy in cash on the 5508 he was selling. That didn't sit well with me.

It seems that 5512 of this PCG type with all the choice features are turning up more and more, like there is a wormhole to a 1962 AD and they just get a little distressed flying through to the present.

I'd say if you search through the forums of the last day or two you will garner some valuable information about some of them and be able to form a good conclusion to your inquiry.

I wonder how long it would be before there are more available on the open market than were originally produced?

We can only hope that some day, some where, some family member of an Attorney General or other "important" person will buy one of these and realize they have been ripped off.

Then and only then will there be some urgency in stopping this type of fraud.

Well obviously I'm late to the party! I should have made a thread over the weekend, but only had my phone and that's a pain. I'm very glad to be enlightened now.

I don't know him personally. I asked him to call me to discuss another watch (5508), and he obliged. He just happened to live nearby was all.

Seemed like a nice guy, but letting me know what cash price he'd take whilst simultaneously running a no reserve auction was a strike in my book. So, I buy the watch, and the auction runs its course? What if the high bidder overbid my agreed upon price? Then what?

Yes it's the same seller, all his watches are fake so don't buy a single piece from him.
He just cleared his Instagram account

Well if I agreed on price with someone I'd stick to it even if I where offered more, I don't like to go back on my word.

It seems as tho he would be willing to take anything for it at the moment, I'm glad you asked the question here and avoided a lot of headache, the members on this forum have helped me so much so I owe them too.

I just hope nobody gets fooled by this seller.

I'm make sure to stop by this sellers new shop in the future and see what he's peddling. He won't last long in that part of town.

RE: sticking to your word...I just sold my old Bronco last Friday, and was offered more the very time the buyer was flying in to pick up the truck. I could have been an ass and never even showed up at the airport. But I'm not an ass! I just received a voicemail from the buyer stating that the truck made it 1000 miles home and ran like a champ. I was happy that he was happy.

I'm glad you did the right thing, if he's really going to be opening a shop, as I wouldn't trust a thing he says, then I'm sure we'd love a review of what he has to offer once the shop is open.

Aren't there laws that prohibit selling goods or articles that are fraudulently represented?

Well here's one: he'll "rebuild, reweld, reshape" a 5512 case for around a grand. Perhaps that's what happened here.

I doubt very much that he will open a brick and mortar unless through some legalese he is able to show that his wares are legitimate otherwise the first person who finds he/she has been defrauded and brings charges will put his inventory into evidence.

I think.

He told me he's already leased the space, and actually called me from there on Friday while he was confirming square footage.

Time will tell, and I'll be there to confirm (or deny).

Why is this guy still a member of TRF? Don't we ban people selling fakes blatantly?

What hope is there when even politicians are prepared to accept what they now claim to be fake watches - the bottom line is, either they accepted what they thought were real Rolexes or they were prepared to breach international trade mark laws - either way is wrong in my book. Later the spin doctors claimed that they were the victims and the watches had bugs in them...yeah, right...anyway, my point is, governments (at least the Australian government) cares little about fakes, Frankens or any other kind of watch related rip off - they do care about the pressure they get from USA movie houses losing money to digital downloads; that they see as a criminal act and want punitive punishments. Hypocritical ba)$;:ds. And that's my daily rant.
