Saw a 1988 16800 with matte markers - didn't they stop in 84?

1) Did they still make matte dial markers in 88?

2) Would Rolex have ever put a matte service dial on a 1988 watch?

Found a tempting piece that has a Swiss T<25 matte dial.

Does this sound like a scam or maybe a dial swap for 1988 16800? I'm getting that scammy Spider Sense on my neck.

No matte dial in '88. Perhaps the seller is mistaken about interpreting the serial number/the age of the watch. The "service" replacement dial for any 16800 would be a gloss dial with white gold surrounds.

Thanks. That is what I was expecting. Seller doesn't have serial range listed. ::sigh:: Like walking through minefields.

16800s show up fairly often for sale here on the Forum. You'll find one!

I passed on this one. They wouldn't give me the serial number "until the watch shipped." LOL I only need the first few digits!

I emailed them about it and they said it was actually from 1984 so there you go. They also said it just sold. The price was okay, maybe a tad underpriced. But with the photos being so over-processed, it's tough to really gauge the condition.

I know those over processed/Photoshopped photos. Im quite sure it is a certain eBay seller. They are quite high on their prices and you have to look hard to see defects
