Pilot parallel calligraphy set incoming!
This is awesome! I put in for the set of 4 pens earlier this week from Goldspot and got them today. Each pen comes with a booklet giving instructions how to write in a few different styles of block lettering. I was constructing decent looking letters in minutes! The pens come with both a black and red refill along with a nib cleaner and a bulb to flush the pen. In the boxed set you get 1.5mm, 2.4mm, 3.8mm, and 6mm pens. The parallel nib is actually very smooth and will go from about an extra fine to XXmm as stated for the pen. Picked up the set for a hair under $25 and worth every penny! This is really fun! I've also seen instructions that if you touch the nibs of two pens together inked in different colors, you can write gradient letters until the opposing ink runs out of the parallel nib. The only oddity in my case is the 1.5mm pen box was open and had the refill installed. Also the whole refill was dried out. I've got an email out to Goldspot to find out what happened. Not a big deal as I plan to use a syringe to fill the refills back up but just really weird! I hope standard fountain pen inks will take advantage of the gradient effect as the pilot ink does. Seriously though, this is as much fun as I've had with pens in a long time! I would have to say my only complaint would be that the pen body is a very basic lightly metallic gray. It would be nice if the pens were more along the looks of a Lamy Joy. I suppose that would have driven up the cost though. Regardless, great pens these are for the job they're designed to do!

Not that cheap downunder :( think I paid about $20-25ea in the early days; local pens shop asking $35ish I think...
How do you find them? I didn't bother getting the set, I prefer multiples of the narrower ones & no use for the "highlighter" currently got 3 red & 1 orange inked up. I play with the Parallel rainbow ink pack, ink colour morphing is a cute party trick. The Parallel special ink feels thicker & smoother than normal FP ink; they recommend you don't use the Parallel carts in FPs. |

nah mate, Pilot vs Lamy carts are chalk & cheese!
haha I collect Lamy & Pilot more than any other fancy expensive pens The PilotParallel inks aren't necessarily super saturated, but they do feel thicker more gel like. When I refill with FP ink the Parallels aren't as gliding smooth. You can refill the carts with syringe (yank out the sealing disc with tweezers, make them easier to refill) or I've used converters in Parallel too, think any Pilot convertor should be ok. Don't they come with the rubber bulb squeezy convertor? Supposedly meant for "cleaning" but it holds ink just fine. I usually pull off the convertor and suck ink from bottle; mainly because I'm too lazy to go washing the Parallel in between inks |

yeah Pilot's got a mouth BIGGER than the cartridge itself
Lamy probably closest to a Parker, if ever I was marooned on a nonGerman desert island & run outta Lamy carts and only American stationers to come to my rescue. Or are they British? Or French! So happens I just picked up a Sheaffer calligraphy set recently the No Nonsense style, definitely vintage American as it's got ink from Iowa. |

I bought those books years ago at Borders (miss that place), one of which came with a set of calligraphy pens. Not a high quality, but great to practice with. I should go looking what i did with those.
The books are great though! Good luck!

The lettering is really beautiful. I'm tempted to invest in one of the guides to try and improve my day-to-day writing. In the meantime, enjoy playing. Let's see some more samples.
