16700 pepsi winding

Just took over a Pepsi finally and was advise to wind 10 to 15 times when it stops after not wearing for days. After a few routine wind i would need to give it a shake after winding before it moves.

I was then advice by a vintage shop owner to always shake first as its rotary movement, followed by a wind. This is my oldest rolex til date and i wouldnt want to ruin it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I heard winding it until the second hand moves is the way. I could be wrong.

I would normally give my 16700 around 40 to 50 turns if it has stopped, along with a light shake after a few turns - has always worked fine for me!

Shaking doesn't mean to rattle the works out of it, it just means a wrist flick or two to release the torque-lock that may be holding everything from moving. Or, you could just tap the side a couple of times with your finger - it's common, you aren't going to damage it.

Yep, pretend it’s a frisbee. Just don’t let go of it though

LOL. Thanks buddy , someone told me that if i have to shake it gently its time for overhaul as winding is supposed to do the job. Big Worry Cleared. Are there other rolexes that requires this light shake to release the movement too?

I couldn't get one of my watches to start, cal 1210 in a 6424, took it in, watchmaker opened it up, "Filthy! No wonder it's stopped", CAD150 later bingo bango back in the rotation all nice and clean again. Might just need a cleaning/lube job. Good luck
