51 and got a 5168 - I had my dealer put me on the list for either the 5167 or 5168 - and fortunately (or not for my wallet) the one I wanted more came in right away! I wear it but those micro scratches yikes. Has me worried, I hope I'm not killing it's value- not that I did it really for value anyways. right?

I bought my first Patek (5711 white dial) when I was 26. I've been in and out of quite a few of them but now I've got a 5712r and a 5905p and cherish them.

1. If you are below 30 did you purchase it with your own money...25 might be a better age actually. 2. If so, how did you get the money 3. What is your career |

In general, i assume finance is one of the popular fields of all Patek owners of all ages. Law, and medicine are probably next. If i used my beer money for watches instead (in college), i could have had a Patek by the time i graduated no problem. I delivered pizza for a while. |

I was 11. Dad was wrenching on his GTB and took a break to have a sip of 47 cheval blanc when he decided his 1518 was too much to bear and it was time to pass it on.

How old were you when you got your first Patek?
Imho not the best question. I know several people under 30 that could easily afford one on their own dime. Someone that’s married with 2 kids at 40 is probably more strapped for cash than a single under 30 year old that is smart with his $$$. That said I’m 33 and never owned one but have had a dozen or so Rolexes and an AP. I purchased my Corvette new outright in 05 after saving a few years. I also purchased a 31 foot Contender last year at 32 (definitely not outright). Sure the watches would hold value but I like to have fun. My first PP will come one day if I can stay off the boat forums.

58 years, for a 5726A-001 - I remember when I was younger going into a jewelry story in Las Vegas . . . I could never afford anything - way too poor back then. Just to look and dream. Then I went into the military and purchased my first watch from that same store . . . a Rolex GMT that got stolen in Korea out of my quarters while I was up on the DMZ. After fighting with my insurance company - they finally paid me off and I bought another Rolex - a Submariner . . . from that same store. It was then that I first saw the Patek Philippe line-up. They were so so expensive and seemed so out of reach. I guess i never thought I could ever get one. Now, I am just about ready to retire - so I treated myself to a watch I knew the military could never give me. . . . I mean aren't you supposed to get a watch when you retire?

So I guess owning a $20k watch isn't that hard when you are 30 right? I also own a tudor hydronaut (first ever watch), Tudor BB, Rolex Batman as well and an ap26470 vampire which I have sold to free up some cash before. |

Why wouldn’t it work? I know a lot of sub 30s who have jobs raking in 6 figures without kids. It works in this day and age

It's interesting to see so many people in their twenties owning Pateks... Back in the day I was most likely the youngest person in the room when hanging out with collector friends, (I started at 16, obviously with much cheaper pieces) so it's nice to see! Back in 2012 was when I acquired my first Patek, I was 21 and it was a blue 5711. I just turned 26 and I no longer have a 5711 but have a 5146a and am hoping to acquire perhaps a 5960a or 5524 maybe sometime in the future
