That would be for a 3185 I suppose, as a Cal 3186 would go for $3k or even $4k more.

I got my Z serial stck dial three years ago on TRF for $6300 full set. I was offered $7500 a month ago from a a collector Needless to say I refused to part with my Pepsi. Love the iconic and classic look with a suit or jeans it just pops!

Chaps

I bought a 16710 a few weeks ago in London in a private deal.

I whizzed back to the AD in my home town on the train and got it put in for a service straight away.

This is it with a new lens and bezel. I have always had a soft spot for the black and red coke. It just looks nice, even if I say it myself.

It is most definitely a keeper.

Regards

Mick

Nothing against the GMTc as I would gladly wear one especially the BLNR. That being said the 16710 is the last of the old breed. I was working with my AD on my current acquisition a I had my 14060M on and asked him if he would be interested in it and he virtually turned his nose up at it. Yesterday I was there and I had my Pepsi on and he went gaga over it and said he would buy it from me and stick it in a safe. Crazy I never really wanted a safe queen but I might consider it with this one.

Truly the last of the old breed and super iconic. I think unpolished/thick case specimen will continue to fetch an gradually upward sloping premium over time.

I sold away my 16710 which I bought new in 2000. Still regret until now.

Manage to find back the GMT and will never let her go :)

Yes I've seen a 3186 for around $15k (nos can approach $20k). If the difference weren't so large, I would prefer the 3186, but even the 3185s are getting expensive too. It's crazy that I could get a bnib blnr plus a used explorer for the price of one of these. But I still would love one ...

I have a new z series coke from 2008 which I bought for £2790 I think. It's still stickered up like the day I bought it. Not sure what it's worth now.

Excellent thread.

I bought my K serial 16710 back in 2002 just before the birth of my first son in July. I bought it in Japan for, at the exchange rate at that time, $2,000 USD. I was a little strapped for cash back then so went for the cheaper GMT II as opposed to the Submariner (which was what I really wanted) as it was about $1000 cheaper than the Sub. I bought the black insert rather than Pepsi as I thought it was a little more formal and would work better with a suit.

Looking at the way the prices have gone compared with the 16610, I definitely made the right decision.

I wore that watch every day for years but then started buying more watches (mostly fashion watches) and the GMT II got ignored for a few years. I had actually considered selling it for something newer a few times but always decided against it. As I have really started building a quality collection the past few years, I have really appreciated the 16710 more and more. I have added a Pepsi bezel and it still has a prominent spot in my collection. I do plan on giving it to my son after he graduates from University/Med School . While technically not a birth year watch since it was manufactured in 2001, I consider it a manufactured year watch (since so was my son). Although I still keep it in the rotation and don't want to turn it into a safe queen, I do try to take care to keep it in good condition. If the prices keep going up, I may have to wait a little longer before I give it to my son to make sure he is responsible enough to take care of it (and not flip it).

The 3186 gmt 16710 seems to have leveled around 15-16k for box paper sets based on trusted seller listings I've seen for the past year

I wonder what a fully stickered unworn could fetch? Maybe 20k?

Prices are still high on these even without the 3186. I found a decent example, y serial and lug holes but No box or papers, I only paid 5900 for it. I was able to source authentic Pepsi and Coke bezels from a forum member for a decent price.

Headed out for vacation in a week and when I get back it's going to LA Watchworks, whom I sent photos too, and they said it was a perfect specimen to freshen up. Even after the service I'll be in for less than 7,000 total which is the below average asking price for these. I emailed tons of sellers and none were willing to budge much on price at all.

bought z series pepsi 2 years ago from 2nd hand dealer in Melbourne, AU. He charged me around $7000, no box no paper, polished and light scratches on the bezel. This was the cheapest in AU with that condition that I could find at that time. No regret of course ..

When I was buying my first Rolex I had a 3186 black GMTII on hold at a dealer. He was willing to discount it and throw in both the Pepsi and Coke bezels.

My wife didn't like so I bought a DJ instead. Talk about a mistake, eh? I still laugh (and cringe) every time I think of that story...

I think I overpaid a bit for this one but what’s not to love? It’s just so nice on the wrist. Should’ve gotten one years ago...

I’ve been looking for a good Pepsi and prices have been going up as I watch it

I expect the pendulum to come back as the hype settles and as attention shifts to the new Basel production (whatever that is)

My assessment (and I’m not expert) is that with the shortage in ss, people wanted to spend their money on older “ cool watches” and that’s when Pepsi jumped to the top of the list

Now with ss showing up more at the AD I expect the hype over the Pepsi to settle down a little

Having said all that I am very interested in buying one once I find one in A good condition ....... cheers

Wow... Didn't realize my old GMT II was getting so much attention these days.

It's an early "A" serial number, owned by me since 1999. Had it factory serviced and lightly polished in 2013. All origina, with the box and paperwork tucked away somewhere ;-)

I wear occasionally but not daily, still in great shape with little/no bracelet stretch, though plenty of very light desk-diver scratches in the five years since polish.
  • On the negative side: Pre SEL, pre stick marks, pre 3286 movement.
  • On the positive side: I've gotten to enjoy it for 19 years!

No idea what the current value is, but was thinking of picking up a pepsi and/or coke bezel just to change it up a bit. Picked up a new Daytona 116500LN a few months back, but the GMT II is still my favorite.

So I plan on stopping by my dealer to have him swap my oyster bracelet to the Rubber B. It's an N serial Coke purchased in 1993, RSC serviced in 2015 and lightly worn since.

Last time I was there he asked if I was interested in a trade, but I didn't discuss. What is the approximate value for my watch if I were to consider trading into a new watch?

Priceless. My advice, skip the trade and enjoy it and watch prices continue to climb. It’s a classic...and keeper.

I appreciate the advice, but the question wasn't whether I should do it - but what the value is today. I don't visit theses forums often, so I really don't know what the value of my watch is. Our house was burglarized a few years ago and we were stung by being "underinsured". I have replacement value at $6,000 right now, but have seen watches listed for 8-10K on the For Sale forum. Also curious as to whether this dealer would offer a "fair" price.

Thanks
