Gotta Love the Open '6'

Sitting in the OR this morning admiring my silver date-wheel. Man! I love the open 6. Anyone else?

Great minds think alike! I am kind of digging the lug holes and chamfers also today.

I only wish I had that beauty on my wrist! Can you tell me what year that particular dial or what MK dial yours is?

Thanks

I'm such a vintage virgin I didn't even realise the 6 on the date wheel on my red sub was open - knew the 6's on the dial were open...just gives me an extra reason to love it even more .

Bezel assembley is now back on my watch and turning as it should do, following a really good experience at the main UK RSC at Kings Hill Kent (drove 220 miles). The service technician couldn't have been more helpful - even adjusted my strap for me. Found out my serial number is: 2229***

The watch has also now been registered in my name on the Rolex data base.

Pics to follow when I return from my business trip.

Kayaker52,

The "font" of the 6's used on these particular dials are "open."

On the date 6, the lower loop on the 6 doesn't connect with the taller left hand curve of the 6. This, if you look carefully, can also be seen in the 6's where you read "660 feet."

Awesome, I can play! I just picked this up literally 30 minutes ago. I bought this as a basket case 6 weeks ago, had it in my possession for 20 minutes and its been at the spa ever since. 1972 Datejust with a more recent Oyster band. My local watch guy turned a dream into a reality. I wanted a Rolex from my birth year and today its a reality.

My 1962 gmt master has a close 6. Does that mean it has been replaced? It still has the original gilt dial and small gmt hand.

It is a service dial from Rolex. The watch is from 1973 - 1974. It was sent in for service at some point in its life and had its dial replaced with this authentic Red luminova service dial. From what I understand, there aren't that many of these dials around.
