WOO HOO! My Poor Man Paul Newman-HERE
Hell, I'm lucky to afford the "poor man's" Daytona. Just Arrived: Ref 79170 Tudor Oysterdate Automatic Chrono Time.
This watch pushes my buttons in so many positive ways. - Case and Trip loc Crown by Rolex. That's cool cause I love Rolex cases! This one is nicknamed "The BIG BLOCK". It's huge. - Screw down crown & pushers. If I fall off the bar stool and land in the pool, no worries. - Two tone subs. I love two tones. If you got 'em, show 'em. - Rotating bezel. I use the bezel as a timing device often. Plus, you don't see many with this type bezel. - Val 7750 movement. My favorite chrono movement. Robust, trusted, and can be easily repaired. I use the chrono function often as well. -Plex crystal. Easily polished and plex has a luster not found in sapphire crystals. - Cyclops. Love the iconic Rolex look, need and use the date. - Oyster bracelet. Has a Tudor clasp and is ostensibly exactly the same as a Rolex oyster bracelet. Many thanks to those who PM'ed info to me. Now for the pics! dP

Nice watch! Mine is white where yours is black and black where yours is white. I think yours will be easier to read! Congrats on the find!

Thanks guys. The prices on these have really gone up. I've seen them sell for over 4K. The "BIG BLOCK", plex crystal, pre Tiger chronos seem to be the ones to collect.

Yeah, I'm amazed by that... Usually, in anything I buy, I get the version that you can't even give away. The Tudor Monte Carlo is the price champ but it is ugly. The pre-Tiger plastic crystal versions are the way to go!

Craig,
Is yours a silver or white dial? I was originally looking for a silver dial w/ black subs but couldn't find one for the right $$. dP

Dan,
Congrats on your Tudor. I love it!!! I had the chance to check out Rawhyde's Tudor the other day and I really fell in love with it. Did you find it from someone on the forum? |

White dial with black sub-dials and a rotating black outer bezel. I'm curious as to what mine is worth, pls PM me an approximate value.
Whem/if I can get a decent digital camera, I'll post some pics of it. All I have is a dinosaur and a camera phone. Rawhyde |

Congrats, nice watch.
I really like these too. One thing I don't understand with these though is why is the bezel rotatable? and why is the bezel marked the way it is, and not calibrated similar to a Daytona ie. to measure elapsed time? John. |

Not sure I can answer your question. But I have no use for the Tachymeter and do use the rotating bezel as a simple timing device all the time. So this version really works best for me.

Excellent example!
And talking about prices, saw a Tudor on Ebay today which has a 23 000 dollar price tag on it Can't remember series though, think it was a 7928 or something. |

My buddy went to the AD and bought 3 Tudor Chronos and 2 Tudor Subs to flip back in 1996. He got a fantastic deal and passed one on to me that same week for $1100.

Beautiful Tudor Chrono, Dan! You have excellent taste in watches, my friend!
I can't imagine how the original Paul Newman Daytona could be any better than this one. Enjoy your new acquisition!!!

Thanks again y'all. This thing is damn hard to photograph. The dial is really stunning with guilloche-embossed subs. Nice effect at various angles.
Here's a try. dP

Bravo Dan,
That superb watch takes a back seat to no Daytona. It is a classic and prices will go up up up.

Dan,
Congratulations -- AWESOME watch! Because of the Date function I would consider buying this -- never the Daytona. Any idea what the MSRP is in Canada and availability for BNIB from an AD? Might be a good excuse to head up to Montreal for a long weekend!

][/QUOTE] Not sure what new[er] Tudor chronos go for. Mine is a 79170 and discontinued sometime in the mid 1990's. Good luck, dP
