Agreed, either you know, or you are not ready. Easier to make a mistake with a Rolex, they tend to hold value much better.

The dssd is great. But very tall. A 233 + a 114060 would be my perfect set up in your scenario.

Rolex... I've owned both and PAM's just won't hit the right spot but, thats just my preference.

I'm not going to tell you which one to get as it is your choice and both are great watches but get the DSSD.

Size wise in the question, both are relatively large watches with interesting looks.

Depending on your collection look, why not PAM?

233 without a doubt. DSSD is an odd watch only a few can truly pull off. 233 is an eye candy that you can probably get at a discount given the current Panerai market.

I vote for the 233 as well. That dome crystal is absolutely gorgeous in real life.

Both great watches and a tough call. Have a look at the PAM 533 or 689 as well (these two are basically the same watch except the 689 is blue and available in Panerai boutiques only) but they have a ten day power reserve and are automatic as opposed to the manual 233.

I have a 689 and D-Blue and I'm not sure I could choose between them if it was one or the other.

Both great watches. I have a Panerai 328, had a 320 as I wanted a metal bracelet for the option of wearing one. U can't go wrong, but w/o a doubt get the Deep Sea. It's a better investment, IMO.

I had a DSSD and really wanted to love it but just couldnt(i even put it on a rubber B and still no love)
Ive got 2 subs,Daytona and a SD and my PAM359(similar to the 233) and compared to the DSSD its a totally different creature. Not really a one to one comparison... they both have their strengths and weaknesses it really comes down to your personal taste

I have owned both, and sold both.
Am much more comfortable with 40mm nowadays.

Couldn't fault you either way. DSSD first for me and save for the 233.

If DSSD Blue was an option I would say yes all day long. Personally the black doesn't stand out or do much for me though. If you aren't sold on either keep looking.

233. it's a top choice for a panerai.

i would rather own a sub over a DSSD....

i realize you're trying to be funny, but this doesn't make much sense....the DSSD is thicker, has a bulkier visiual presence and the bezel is much rougher (will chew cuffs much more).

It makes no difference what anyone else likes. You're the one buying the watch. Get the one YOU want.

I would get the one that I like and that fits the best.

In my case I do not like either choice.

Always funny when people come on the Rolex subforum of rolexforums.com and ask if they should get another brand

Deepsea for sure, but only the D-blue dial.

Black dial has never worked for me. Just looks like a sub on growth hormones.

True, but even so...interesting how many have suggested he go with the Panerai.

Bought a Panerai some years ago, did not keep it more than a couple of months. Too big for me even if I was in love with this watch, I could not wear it. If size is not an issue, Panerai are nice but don't pay the AD price and go for discount as it's not a brand keeping value on his new models.

I'd go with the DSSD first and if you didn't like it would probably have an easier outlet for sale/trade. From my understanding Pam's can be a little harder to resale/trade later should you choose too. As always YMMV.

DSSD for me, I own both brands. I could put a Rolex on and never take it off, after wearing a panerai for a few days I'm ready for a change.

My background: I own a DSSD and LOVE it....if I was to get another watch it would be a 233! ....also I have owned a couple Panerai's in the past. So I do like both brands

Have you tried both on?
Do you prefer Straps or bracelets?
What do you currently have? maybe one would fit collection better than the other.

Both awesome...

Thank you all for your input.

I am leaning towards the 233 more than the Rolex by a margin. I'll sleep on it a few more and will make my final decision.

Thanks guys!
