My Daytona has gone!!!

Some of you will know, I love the Rolex Daytona and I've owned several variants including a white gold 116509 panda.

I managed to buy a Ceramic Daytona 116500LN at RRP in October and I love the watch.

Problem is, I'm 6'1" and weigh 217lbs.

I have a 44mm Breitling Airborne which I am wearing more than the Daytona due to the size.

The Daytona is simply too small for me personally. I'm gutted to finally admit it, but I've tried and tried to love the size but it's lost on my wrist.

So I sold it to Watchfinder UK and made a very healthy profit...with that profit I have purchased a Datejust II as it's 41mm and I have 2 Breitling chronos and a Tag Heuer Link Chrono for 'sports wear'...therefore this beautiful Datejust is for 'best'.

The picture may not give the best perspective, but it doesn't look too small to me. That said, you've got to be comfortable with how a watch sits and looks on your wrist. Too bad you're not that happy with the hottest Rolex over the last year, hope you enjoy the DJII.

The white Daytona would have "appeared" larger on your wrist.

Have you considered the SkyD or YM2?

I think you made a good decision to sell. The 44mm Breitling Airborne would be my choice as well.

The 41 DJ isn't much bigger than a Daytona.

I'll check out the steel skydweller when it hits the AD's but for now I'm very happy.

I love the new version especially but the fact is that the Daytona looks better on women.

Time for the Daytona to get the larger case size like the new Sea Dweller.

The SkyD would be a good fit for you. I think the Daytona looked ok though, but it's all about how it feels.

Maybe you need the leopard daytona to match the power of the tiger!

I wanted to love the Daytona, but it was too small for my liking as well. I prefer the 42 to 44mm range. Thinking of adding a SS YMii (blue hands) next.

Yeah it's time for a larger Daytona...I'll be all over it if it comes out in 42mm

Every time I've seen that watch id always assumed it was fake. Couldn't imagine Rolex letting that out the factory.

I swear you look bigger than 6'1, 217.

But anyways, yeah just keep what you like. Life is too short to worry.

Watch size remains such a personal thing.

I wear watches that run from 36 mm to 44 mm. I love the variety the different sizes (and shapes and thicknesses) offer.

But if I had to wear only one size and only one watch, for me, the Daytona is the 'best fit.' It's the 'sweet spot' size, shape and thickness for my particular wrist and I would not be inclined to flip any of my Daytonas if it were released in a larger size. Just MHO.

The leopard is a classic. I'd rock it on black leather though.
Panerai makes some nice chronos, maybe one of them would be more to your liking.

Here are 2 pics of me training yesterday for an upcoming boxing match (give you a better idea of my size):

It's hard to tell from the picture, but you tried and it wasn't for you, so moving on is a good idea. The DJ II you chose is beautiful as well.

Good idea if you don't like the size! Fifty fathoms would be right at home on your wrist

Agreed!

Im only 5'11 but my arms are fairly chunky and when I tried on a Daytona it just looked tiny ... even compared to my GMT ceramic (same size apparently).

Sometime a watch you think will be amazing just doesn't work out.

Trouble is the SubC & GMTC are a true 40mm plus they have the maxi case.

The DaytonaC are actually only 38.66mm without a maxi case.

Fair play as they do wear small, it's one reason why I prefer PM on this, give it a bit more heft and substance.

I think the DaytonaC looked fine on your wrist but you weren't happy with it's size so you made the right decision. If a watch is too big or too small for one's wrist it is what it is. You just move on and get something that suits you better! Over a decade ago you would've had little to no alternatives as far as Rolex, but that's not the case now. There is DJ2, DJ41, YM2, Sky Dweller, SD, DSSD, etc. I would love to be able to pull off some 44mm watches but 41mm is really the max for me.

I was really surprised the first time I tried on a 116523 Daytona. It doesn't look small but it wore more like a 38-39mm watch. I tried on a Bluesy right after and the difference was quite noticeable. While both technically 40mm, the GMTs and Subs wear much larger than their size suggests.

I flipped mine for the same reason. Looked way too small on my 7.5" wrist. Looking at the new AP RO Chrono at the moment.

The daytona strikes again!!!!

Many purchase. Many sell. Rolex will eventually make a 42mm daytona or other chrono. Book it.

Plenty of larger individuals who wear daytonas and it looks great but, its all about preferences as you said. If you didn't like it good move!
