The new one's aren't expected until September or so. Best to make some calls if you want to look at PM models.

I can wear up to 44mm and that’s the max size for me (Depsea, PAM 88). Any larger watch would just be considered ‘clownish’.

Big guys can wear watches bigger than 44mm and are most likely to pull it off. It’s hard to see a big fella with a big wrist wearing 36mm watch... but, to each his own.

Oh well, back to thinking about the Sub.
just get a patek triple date.

I think 24-28 is safe actually.

I'm off to buy a sun dial in order to stay one step ahead of the past

Can’t believe you didn’t pick up the SD4k immediately!!!
1) it’s discontinued
2) in my opinion, its a “connoisseurs watch.” let me make a case over the sub- its rated 4x as deep. Thicker caseback that’s engraved. Rolex put a ton of vintage elements into it - matte black dial (in the sun it is reminiscent of the chocolate dial 1680’s), shorter and slimmer lugs (much better feel for me over the maxi case subs), thick sapphire that comes up over the bezel (almost feels again like the old 1680), and I’m in love with the flat S on the dial. In my opinion, its got way more depth to it than the submariner.

So I tend to prefer 40-42mm watches but sweet Mary Moses, reading through this thread I’m now certain the percentage of people here who own a rascal is at 55. I agree that 55 or 60mm watches are gigantic and will go the way of the dodo bird, but folks, in the bulk of the market (ie gshocks, fossils, citizens, low end seiko, etc) manufacturers have been filling department store cases with larger watches since the early 2000’s.... so it isn’t just fashion....it’s the way it is.

Having watches that vary in size from 36mm to 44mm, I enjoy wearing all of them.
Fashion is not something I have ever thought about when wearing one of my watches.
Who cares what the current fashion is or what others think about my watch.
As for the SkyDweller, I haven't tried it on, it may be too big for my wrist or it may not. Either way, if i like it i'll buy it, fashion or other people's opinion be damned.

I wish people would stop saying the only reason folks like me want larger watches is to be trendy or pander to the fashion flavor of the week. For many of us with 7" or larger wrists, a 40mm looks slightly small and a 36mm watch looks ridiculous. People should buy what works best for their tastes and their wrist size. The OP basically said he couldn't pull off a >40mm watch due to smaller wrist size. For folks like me with 7.5" wrists, a 42-44mm works perfectly IMO

Totally agree and a couple of notes:
- last month at SIHH Panerai released a 38mm
- original explorer was 36mm and looked great on anyone
- original size of the Submariner was 38mm and looked great on Sean Connery

When I first got a glance at the sky dweller I was excited and then I found out it was the side of a wall clock. Not for me

Agreed

I went through the same thing with a Breitling Navitimer, too large and too busy to read, really disappointed because I wanted to add one to my collection.

I am anxious to try on the Skydweller but I fear it will be too large for me.

SkyDweller Disappointment

Flat 7.5 wrist bone .
D Blue 44 mm

SD50 43mm
It’s what you like to wear and only yourself feel comfortable wearing it . Forget about what’s in now or the future

A 42 is on the large size in my opinion, the SDs can kinda pull it off, the fluted bezel on a watch that size just reminds me of the Rolex wall clocks the ADs used to have.

large watches are similar in size to classic pocket watches - image shows an actual pocket watch with a wrist-adapter vs a classic 36mm Datejust

Saying the SD is oversized is like saying size 15 shoes are too big....not if you have size 15 feet. A 39/40 on my wrist looks small!
