Although I like the DJ 41 a bit better than the DJII, I found from my Black Bay that 41mm is at the very outside of what I can wear comfortably. I got a 36mm DJ fluted with jubilee and haven't looked back. Try one on, with a wrist your size it won't look "small" despite what some say (I recently read a thread where someone was complaining that 42mm were too small for a modern watch! Not me). The rhodium however is fascinating, in and of itself and I am eager to see it in person. I'm very tempted in adding 39mm OP in rhodium if it looks as good as some pictures suggest. Good luck!

DJII and DD41 were both unfinished/rushed releases IMHO. No other reason to release a completely new model then pull it barely couple years later when the next version comes out if it was a finished product.

I am in the middle on the new DJ. Like the case of the 41 better, but like the larger indices on the DJII dials...36mm is classic, but I have tried several over the years, and while I dig the classic design, I end up moving them because they wear too small for me.

I think the DJII was introduced in 2009, wasn't it?

I m with u guys.

The fatter index markers along with oyster bracelet makes dj2 one of the most sporty/versatile Datejust, IMHO.
The fluted bezel adds just the right touch.

OP
36 is so last century. Lol.
Dj41/dj2 looks great on u.

I like both models. Agree with the comment about the DJII being sporty/versatile, but I have no problem with the DJ41 either. You get the new movement as well with the DJ41.

Here's two of the blue dials side by side.

Not my pic, but it makes for a good comparison.

See how the writing on the dial of the DJ41 has been expanded to fill up more of the empty dial space because of the thinner batton markers.

As for the blue colouring, they are the same. Personally prefer the larger batons of the 2, but they are none-the-less, both beautiful despite the subtle differences.

The DJ41 looks like a DJII thats been on a diet - I measured the case diameter at 1mm less than the Datejust IIs that are sandwiching it here, and the bezel and lugs give the impression of being slightly slimmer:

The 41 looks much better proportioned to my eye. It's all about the width of the bezel.

Both are beautiful. I know I am in the minority (at least with the more traditional and purist Rolex lovers), but I actually do still prefer the DJII over the DJ41.

To a purist, the DJ41 is a proportionally larger version of the DJ36. I owned and loved my DJ36 for 24 years - so, I know that watch very well. But, the DJII is a newer interpretation of the Datejust - not just a sized up version of it.

In its exaggerated proportions (lugs, case sidewall, bezel, baton size), that watch fits a more modern style.

Style nowadays is much more casual and sporty than just a few years ago. Every aspect of our (US) culture is influenced by sports and the DJII is a more manly, and sporty version.

In my lifetime (I am 51), what was considered appropriate dress has changed dramatically. In 1989, when I started my company, I wore a suit every day to work -- managing my same company, I have not worn a suit to work in over a decade. I wear very stylish point collar shirts, sometimes a jacket, and dress pants - but not suits.

To me, the DJII fits my sense of style today more than the more "retro" DJ41.

But, to each his own style ... and I respect different viewpoints.

I chose the black dial on mine because I already have the blue YM. Otherwise I would have chosen the DJ41 in blue for sure.

Well put and nice handle! Ten years ago my clients would be wearing suits and ties year round even in our sizzling summers now which forced me to do the same but now I can get away with jacket and slacks no tie or less thank god. Having just purchased my Blue DJ2 less than 6 months ago I find it getting more wrist time than my Sub, Daytona, and DD36. More compliments too. The larger dial and big sticks are also easypeasy on the eyes. My only complaint is the smaller crown but no big deal.

DJ41 is a beautiful watch and really looks like a very slightly larger DJ36. The DJ2 was a real separation from the 36 in size and style. I'm going to miss the availability of the DJ2. Glad I've got mine and want to add a stainless, blue dial while I can. Unfortunately I have too many watches I want to add!!! Those college funds are tempting! Lol

I agree that the DJII looks bolder and more predominate than the DJ41.

All Rolex had to do to the DJII was to make the bezel a bit thinner, add more facets to it and redo the dial with thinner baton markers!

Cheers

Why doesn't the website show all the available dial and bezel and bracelet combinations? It would be easy to do with the way they have it set up.

Instead they made the DJ41 a DJ40.

I agree with you 100%.

Lots of good conversation (and pics) in this thread. It's cool to see everyone's opinions. Now I just have to wait for my AD to get a rhodium dial in so I can finally see one in person. Sure I could put down a deposit and have him order one, but if I don't like it and he has to sit with it , that kinda sucks for him

Im not a big guy and only 5'5 in height and to me the DJII is much more modern style. I like how it looks on my wrist and gives it a more noticeable watch look. The DJ was definately too small for my taste.
I started with the DJII rhodium with diamonds... Loved it and got the DJII with blue dial..for more casual dressing. Can't go wrong.

Im a fan of the 36 silver fluted on an oyster, or white dial. But thats due to my small wrist. Next up i prefer the 41, just seems a leaner datejust flow of the watch works better than the DJII.

Yeah I also like the look of the 36 DJ (Fluted , Oyster, Silver stick dial.) Even though I have a 7.25'' wrist (hard to believe from pictures, but I just measured again to make sure and that's the size of my wrist haha) I still think the 36 mm looks awesome

Wow that pic makes the DJ41 look really small in comparison to the DJII.

While I think the thinner bezel is better looking, I'm not sure the rest of the updates are that great. The DJII was awesome. Too bad we couldn't have had a Jubilee on that.

DJ = 36mm in my humble opinion.

That being said, i've never been a fan of the DJII, I think Rolex got this one wrong with the proportions which they've more than corrected with the DJ41 so out of your choices i'd vote DJ41 as it seems a better 'homage' to the original.
