Advantages of using an AD

Hello all. I placed an order with the nearest AD today for an 114060. I'm looking forward to the experience, and found it odd that (for this model), the price was the same as some well known non AD's. In one case, what I paid was slightly less than I found out there while looking.

In any event I'm happy, and looking forward to it's arrival.

Did they give you any indication as to how long it would take them to get you one?

Congrats and welcome to the forum! You're right that it's often cheaper to buy from an AD than many trusted sellers in this current market. Well done!

Congrats. the other advantage is that only ADs get their inventory directly from Rolex

Yes, he said 2-3 weeks, but now that it's a done deal, the waiting will be fun. Unless those weeks turn to months!😆

In the UK, all the popular models are far cheaper than from a non-AD. Seems the same is happening in the US and fast as Rolex has told ADs it will not be resupplying them again until Jan, we've heard from many sources, and sellers have marked up accordingly.

I've always preferred to buy from an AD, particularly one that I've built up a good relationship with over the years.

To me, price isn't everything - it's worth paying a little bit more for the service and peace of mind.

For example, when I bought my YM2, I noticed within a day that the sweep seconds hand did not return to the perfectly vertical position when I stopped and reset the countdown timer - it was off by a fraction. I'm sure Rolex would have fixed it but this would have taken some time, maybe a couple of weeks - and it would always be at the back of mind that my watch had a defect (albeit minor) that had to be fixed.

However, when I informed my AD, she immediately took the watch back, voided the warranty and gave me a brand new one that worked perfectly. The issue was settled within 24 hours of the first purchase.

Other benefits of using an AD include ease of servicing (the AD does everything for me), 36-month interest-free payment plans and of course, freebies like calendars, Rolex magazines etc.

Having said all this, it's up to the individual to decide whether the AD route is preferred or whether going grey - which is usually cheaper - is better.

It's definitely getting cheaper to buy from AD's however many trusted sellers cater to those infected by the flipping fever. Resellers just like car dealerships make their bread and butter from trade ins

Why do people focus on free items like a 15 dollar hat, or a dollar calendar, it's ridiculous Rolex even pretends to give out these trinkets after someone spends 9k

ADs do it because it works... it's the little gestures that count in sales

I say none of this to brag- I actually feel quite stupid admitting it bc I have a collection of 4 watches AND lost a nice pile of cash. In the last 7 years Ive bought 16-18 Rolexs from 3 different ADs (most from one) and 4-5 from trusted sellers. Going forward, I'd only buy from a trusted seller if it saved me thousands of dollars. Having an AD is priceless to me! ADs will clean/light polish the watch, re-size it (if needed), swap straps, AND as you buy more and more you get "street cred" and eventually front of the line privileges on the hard to find models. I'm stunned when I see people pay MSRP or more to trusted sellers when they can make a few calls and buy from an AD. (Excluding the Daytona C and SS SkyD) None the less, enjoy your watch and you did it the right way.

they didn't have a black sub you could walk out with?

That's like going to McDonald's and they don't have any hamburgers

Thank you. I 'gave' away only $350 to one online seller, and 'saved' 250-300 with two others I checked. Basically a wash buying from an AD I'm 20 min from.

I don't expect many issues, but I like the idea of being able to walk in the door just in case.

Nothing beats a great AD. Problems start when flipping though. Sometimes the difference between what you’re flipping makes since to use alternate sources, plus the availability factor. Thankfully there is a good number of TS’s here. I’ve bought from two of them and wouldn’t hesitate to buy again. They offer great service. Also, remember not everyone has a good AD alternative, especially for other brands like PP, AP, ALS, etc.

I don't expect freebees when I make any purchase, nor do I necessarily expect discounts, but there are a lot of good reasons to buy from an AD, besides the free magazines and such.

I do appreciate whatever freebee the AD offers, but that's not even close to the reason I liked doing business with my local dealer.

What's ridiculous is to suggest that anyone thinks that that's the best or even the main reason to buy from an AD.
