Genuinely heartbreaking. Some terrible things happen in this world and it hits home as a watch enthusiast to hear what happened to him.

God forbid that ever happened to me I'm giving it up right away, filing a police report and doing an insurance claim. Resisting some "thugs" isn't worth my life, or anyone's. May he rest in peace.

So terrible.

While you should never live your life in fear, you always need to be aware of your surroundings. I’m no longer surprised at what some people are capable of doing to each other.

I've considered this happening to myself and I'd simply give it up along with some advice to the losers. Pride isn't worth it and neither is a life. That said I'm the kind of person that looks at stuff like this (when I have a loss of property or possession) and say "I'll just go out and make more money, you guys have no skills or ambition to get what you want in life."

Terrible for that mum and family my heart goes out to them.

This is a crazy world we live in now. I don't let my watch peep through my sleeve especially on the NYC subway at night.

That is sad. It can happen to anyone of us. Mr Pierce was a trained guy with muscle but stabbing is hard to stop without stronger weapon. I feel just hate towards these people who do things like that.

Killed for his Rolex

The act of violently robbing others is abhorrent- sorry for this man’s loss of life.

The full story appears to suggest he initially refused to surrender his valuables and his girlfriend acquiesced as the violence ensued.

The headline is about a watch - but the context appears to be more about resisting the robbery.

I suspect had no watch been involved, the crime of opportunity would have occurred nonetheless.

That's nuts! Just crazy. No way the guy can afford for service on the watch so it will probably be sold or pawned away. And that is worth a human life? Just disgusting!

A terrible, and disturbing turn of events. Sincere Condolences to his family, with yet another instance of just how low the human race can go..

This was painful to watch. Nothing is worth this IMO....I wish he had just given them the watch. I understand the pride thing but you have to think about the bigger picture (family, friends, life changing circumstances) when faced with something like this. That watch is just money and you can always earn it back....that said, I hope these 2 lowlifes get what's coming to them one way or another. Karma is a real bitch and nothing good will happen for these 2 I'm sure in the not so distant future. Condolences.

Be glad you’re not me. I got out of a car once and a guy immediately stepped out from behind another car and put a .45 in my face, pushed me up against the car with the gun to my head, patted me down, took my wallet, told me to run away or he’d kill me, and took the car.

I’m an athletic 6’2”, trained in boxing, martial arts and self defense, and I still had no chance. I ran like the wind, although I did run zig-zags at least. If my gun was on my person when he patted me down, I’d probably be a goner.
You talking life insurance?
