NYC vintage rolex repair

Hi all,

Where is the best place to go for repair of a 16808 vintage gold sub in NYC. I sent my mk2 red sub to bob ridley and I was very happy, but the stress of shipping it was a problem. I would prefer to go local. Anybody have any suggestions or experiences in NYC?

thanks!

Take it from this longtime New Yorker ... send it to one of the preferred/recommended vintage specialists frequently mentioned on this forum, including Ridley, LAWW, Rikki, ABC, etc .... I've gone the local route several times in NYC and I've yet to find anyone who's in the same league as those guys.

The shipping anxiety is far less than the anxiety of wondering if a watchmaker is going to screw up your beautiful vintage Rolex.

Henry Li at WatchMakingProject.com is completely trustworthy and a masterful watchmaker. He loves watches as much as you do. Well worth reaching out to him.

Oh, no. Please don't. I'm sure they'd be OK with some simple jobs, but I'd never, ever let them work on a top-notch vintage Rolex sports model. I know this place well.

Couldn't agree more. Had a very disconcerting experience with them

Take a stress pill and send it to the Ridleys. Send it Registered mail with adequate insurance (which is cheap for registered mail) Not much risk in doing that

With them, the Ridleys, you have a know what the outcome will be.

X2.

Actually, if you call them and make arrangements they have great rates on the pick up and return of your watch, insurance included.

Do they service modern watches as well or only vintage?

There are many places that are qualified to do repairs.
I have personally had the good fortune
to find Watchmakers International.
Phillip and Bob Ridley are top notch.
Since I first became a client they have
worked on half a dozen watches for me.
They will take time and explain options
for repair. I’ve felt comfortable with them every step of the way.
I think you will find a friendly, family type atmosphere
when you call them to inquire about repairs to your watch.
Let us know how your repair goes. Best

I forgot to mention that yes, they service modern day Rolex watches.
Phillip and Bob at WI have serviced both my
modern & vintage Rolex watches.
One thing to remember is that they use genuine Rolex
parts when repairs are needed.

My wife’s 2001 Explorer needed a preventative service
and damaged crystal replaced and they followed through to my satisfaction.

Thanks, they seem to be very responsive as I emailed them and within few minutes got the response. I'm in the process of sending my day-date to them and will see how it goes. So far, I'm impressed with their excellent communication.

I would like to add my recommendation for The Ridley's. They serviced 2 vintage Rolexes for me last year. The communication was absolutely first rate and the workmanship was impeccable. You won't be disappointed.
