VERSUS: Vintage Mk1 Sport Models (1675 and 1680)
Twelfth edition of the "VERSUS" post/picture. What is "VERSUS"? Well, I thought it would be fun to compare two watches (and only those two watches) and discuss pros/cons by outlining the differences and getting folks' ideas/thoughts/opinions on TRF. We got folks here that have been collecting and studying these things for decades all the way to those who are just starting to venture into the crazy world of Rolex (and everyone in between). Therefore, it would be fun and educational!
For this edition, we have a showdown of a couple vintage sport models. The GMT-Master 1675 with fuchsia insert and Mk1 dial and a Submariner 1680 with Mk1 dial as well. Which do you prefer and why? Previous VERSUS: 1. VERSUS: Submariner 1680 v. 16610 2. VERSUS: Rolex Submariner and Sea-Dweller 16610LV and 126600 3. VERSUS: Rolex Submariner 16610s 4. VERSUS: Sea (Deepsea 116660) to Sky (Explorer 1016) 5. VERSUS: Submariners Vintage and Modern 6. VERSUS: Datejusts with Unique Dials 7. VERSUS: Vintage Submariners 8. VERSUS: Vintage GMTs 9. VERSUS: 5-digit Sub and GMT 10. VERSUS: Special Edition Modern Sea-Dwellers 11. VERSUS: A Touch of Red (GMT-Master / Sea-Dweller)

This is an interesting one. I would go with the 1675 for its stand out bezel color. In a city like LA where you see endless subs and GMTs, its nice a change up with that fuchsia bezel insert. Always thought I preferred when one went more orange toned, but that fuchsia is awfully cool. Might have to start the hunt for one :-). Great post. Thanks for sharing!

I would have to go with the 1675/fuchsia. Its got a lot more personality...
Its a very nice 1680 though and as with all of your "versus" there's no wrong decision! |

I prefer the mark 1 sub. The plots rival the maxi dial plots on 5513. Would live oind one myself.

The 1680 - especially that one! Big plots, fairly thick lugs. I've always found the fuchsia bezel to be a bit feminine (no that there's anything wrong with that :-). I do like the patina on the hour markers/hands though. If it were a Pepsi, I would probably have a different opinion.

Tough choice i just put a fuchsia on my Gmt & it's now my fav ,the bezels really can make these models pop whether it's a kissing 40 or a fuchsia with the prices on bezels these days it's worth paying a little more to get your bezel of choice on the watch instead of having to source it afterwards.

I’d choose the 1680, no the 1675, the 1680, no the 1675, the 1680, no the 1675...

Love the 1675....just pure class with a little pop of color on those faded bezel inserts.

Never a fan of the Pepsi insert. I find it relatively easy to keep track of the time zone I'm in, so while I appreciate the GMT it is not my first choice. I find it more difficult to keep track of the time left in my parking meter and the function of the Sub bezel makes me chose the Sub. Though a Thunder Bird would have the same function. I do like the GMT with a solid black insert.
