Evaluating watch bands

While browsing around for used watches online I see images like this. I知 guessing it demonstrates the condition of the band.

My question is: what do you look for in pictures like these?

I only have seen pictures holding the band in this way while looking at Rolexs.

It gives you a good indication of the wear on the bracelet.
Renewing a Rolex bracelet is costly

So a band can be renewed huh? Rolex tightens up all the links? I figured one would have to just replace it.

I have some experience collecting cheaper vintage watches particularly Bulova but do want to get a Rolex in a couple of years to celebrate my Navy retirement so I知 just now starting my education on Rolex.

Thanks, I知 going to enjoy this hunt.

brand new Rolex bracelets should not hang at all - it should stay perpendicular to the ground. The more it hangs, the more wear you have on the pins and links. Worn bracelets are not pleasant to wear. Enough wear will cause the band to break.

If someone has a scan of a well worn pin, please post it. I probably have some somewhere - just need to find them.

The band can be "refurbished". A well known shop in Asia is the home of the "bracelet magician"; his name is Michael Young. I don't think rolex themselves offers bracelet refurbishment.
