Icon20 Opinions on the James Cameron Deep Sea?

First time posting, HI ROLEX FORUMS!

I've just recently learned about the James Cameron D-Blue, wanted to know if anyone in the forums has purchased and kept one, I wanted to know if it was all it was cracked up to be. I've not yet purchased my first Rolex, but I'm saving up and I know that this particular watch is my most desired piece.

Just fascinated by the looks of this watch and the story behind its attribution to James Cameron. For $13k I would hope that it's worth the wait, and the price tag.

It’s an amazing watch. Do not believe all the hype about it being too big and top heavy for an everyday watch. Yes it’s a heavy watch but with the glidelock clasp a perfect fit is just a quick adjustment away. It’s more comfortable then my GMT and I now wear it daily.

It's a killer watch if you have the wrists to pull it off. Once you use the glide lock correctly then it wears very well! Wouldn't part with mine and will always be a part of my collection.

I would never buy one. It serves no useful purpose other than to be part of a collection. They actually released it with this Cameron dial because the black dial wasn't selling too well. I would not choose it as my only watch. It will not fit under shirts. I recommend going with a more versatile everyday watch first and then adding something like this later. This watch is fine for the beach but will look ridiculous at work depending on your career.

i don't own one, and have not even seen one in real life. But judging from the pictures, it is a watch i would like to purchase some days.
As for size, i am not too worried about it, i like big watches, i have a couple divers watches, that have really thick cases and are top heavy, so i am sure i can handle the deep sea.
i do wear a SD43 and find it perfect, not even big at all. I am sure you will get good feedback on that watch. Now what you need to ask yourself is, do you like heavy watch, and bigger rather than smaller watch, that s all. Good luck and enjoy your shopping.

I just bought one. Its amazing, I came from a sub I thought felt slightly small
(my sweet spot was 42mm) and its been great, for the three days I've owned it.
Pics for reference

Its a larger fitting watch sure...but I wouldn't go so far calling it ridiculous looking. That said if you like the watch as a whole the Black dialed (original) is a great value for the money. If you're fixated on the JC version you'll pay a premium for it, but if it makes you happy and that's your goal you won't be disappointed. Hell of a watch no matter how you slice it.

At one point I considered its lesser selling cousin the DSSD. I visited my local AD and to my great disappointment the lugs extended beyond my wrist so I concluded that it was a no-go. I since found the SK4K, which (just) fits my wrists, and I love it. If you have the wrists to carry the JC, go for it, as I do believe the glidelock will cinch it stably in place. Definitely try one (or the other) on, first, if you haven't already. Happy hunting!

I find it comfortable and distinctive. Nothing else looks like a DBlue and I think thats a good thing.I find no problems with it fitting under my cuffs. Obviously not everyone is of a like mind.

It’s a beauty and the dial is mesmerizing. It is thick, I can’t wear mine under dress shirts or suits at the office, but that’s what dress watches are for!

I own one as well and it is a killer watch. The dial truly makes this one special. Now would it be a daily watch for me? No. It makes for a great change of pace or weekend watch. If you have chance to get one and you have wrist to pull it off I highly recommend it!

I don’t care for it. The green DEEPSEA on the blue dial is a crime against style—“Blue and green should not be seen without a color in between” after all. Also, I think James Cameron is a pompous ass and Avatar sucked. But hey, you’re not buying the watch to please me. I’d much prefer the standard DeepSea.

The d-blue is a bold and masculine watch. If it suits your wrist and personality, snatch it up! You won’t regret it.

You are new if you wonder if $13K is worth it, in some places it is selling for $17K.

Great watch. Sold my black DSSD to fund this. Great robust and versatile piece for a daily wear.

This. I’m happy it’s in my collection and it is very cool...but I don’t think that it works with a suit, so gets relegated to weekend wear

Great versatile watch with its dial color, I wear it with a suit and no problem regarding the shirt, my wrist 7.8” , it is not a discrete watch at all, and every body will notice you are wearing a Rolex with a couple of compliments every time you have it on. DSSD blue is a wonderful historical timepiece from Rolex.

I have a small 6.5 inch wrist.
However I couldn’t resist the look and feel of the D-Blue plus the incredible story that goes with it.

The dial is absolutely breathtaking and I love wearing mine, despite the fact it’s not a daily wearer.

If you can find one, go for it before it’s discontinued.

I'm in the minority I know, but I went for the "classic" DeepSea...

I saw the D-Blue and thought it nice...But the black dial is timeless...

Like a black tuxedo...Never out of fashion...

If money were not an issue I might have added a D-Blue, but seeing as I could only have one, the original was my choice...

In regard to wearability, please beware, it's a BIG watch...

That being said, the DeepSea is the only watch I wear...All day, every day, with no issues what so ever...

The matte dial, domed crystal...A stunning piece...

Good luck...

This mirrors my experience exactly

I have the Black dial for daily wear and the D-blue for dressups.
I got married wearing my D-blue and it has never been a problem fitting under long sleeves as required

One of the MOST comfortable watch to wear as a daily beater. The trick is to wear it snug to the wrist. Use the glide lock system. A true keeper. I own both the black dial n the d blue since 2008.

Welcome to the forum Andrew, and if you like the DSSD deep blue "go for it"
It's a great watch, the dial changes with the ambient light...
I don't find it big or heavy...then again I own quite a few large Panerai so I'm biased...

cheers

I'm like you you, prefer the black dial. Something about it. I've owned it twice and will get it a third time eventually, permanently this time.
