Rolex Sub C ND or Omega Seamaster 300 60th Anniversary

Hi, I would like to get your opinion on these two great timepieces. I felt that both are almost similar - no date, black bezel, iconic diving watch, from reputable brands with lots of history.

If you were to choose one, what would it be and why?

I know this is a Rolex forum. And thank you for giving me your thought on these two watches.

Almost everyone is going to choose the ND here, including me. Doesn't get more iconic than a Sub and even a limited edition Omega won't be able to convince me.

I own both watches and I would say the Sub. In all honesty, you need to go try them on. The Omega fits much, much larger. I believe it is 15 mm thick with the sapphire clear back to it. A lot of people have tried on my watch and it does not even fit them. My wrist is 7.25 but pretty flat so I can wear it. That said, I have honestly thought about flipping it for another Rolex.
Also, do not rely on the Omega pics online. The master 300 co-axial is made to look aged. You will either love it or hate it..... there is no in between with most people. That said, take a look at the 300 divers from Omega also. They have the 2500d moment and run around $4,400. Technically an ETA movement modified but still nice. The blue was my first watch purchase and I will NEVER sell it. I like it much better than the mater co-axial.

Sub. Current Omegas are just too thick, and I don’t like PCLs on a diver.

Get the Omega!

To be fair, I'm only saying that to help even up the suggestions a bit. If it was me I would buy the sub for sure.

I prefer this version of the Omega, but the sub wins between them, no contest.

Sub ND for sure. Tried it on two weekends ago and haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

he is asking about the Trilogy re-issue, not the 300 Master. The 60th anniversary Trilogy watch is a true re-issue. 39mm I believe. In all honesty, Id get the Sub first, youll always want the Sub more. The 60th SM will continue to depreciate imo. Omega made a lot of these watches and they are already 20% less than list in the secondary less than 6 months after they started to get delivered.

That being said, that SM is on my list. The execution on these three watches was absolutely masterful. It is, imo, a much more beautiful watch than a SubC. I hate the maxi case and love the vintage size of the Omega. But at the end of the day, youll wish you had a Sub. There is no dive watch in the world like a Submariner.

Sub ND for sure and I’ll get a 2nd and a 3rd Sub before I’ll get a Seamaster.

Get the Sub. I too have owned many of both brands. I really liked where the PO was going when first introduced but Omega has too many LE and variations of every watch. They seem to be all over the place without focus and saturated their own market. Rolex focus is laser strait and it shows decade after decade. Omega makes a nice watch but Rolex fit and finish is better and seems to be carved out of one piece of metal. The older Sub might be a closer contest to a new Omega but the new Sub there is no contest. IMO
The Ploprof is the only Omega that still intest me. On a side note, I couldn’t get anyone including our trusted sellers to even take a PO in partial trade for a Rolex. Once again because the market was saturated with Omega. The aged dial of the Seamaster 300 60th seems a bit gimmicky in typical Omega anniversary style. If you buy a Omega, buy preowned as they take a brutal hit and the Seamaster 300 will be the same in another year. Get the Sub, it’s a superstar. I repeat, buy the Sub first because ultimately you will save money and a lot of regrets later.

Over the modern ND sub I’d pick the Seamaster. Over my 14060 I’d pick my sub

My mistake on the Omega. I thought you meant the master co-axial. That said, I’d still go with the sub.

Wow,a limited edition omega, better snap that up quick as I doubt they’ll ever do another one, at least not this week.

Yeah this will only go one way. I personally like Omega. Some here will look down at Omega but they make a great watch and a brilliant movement. Value for money they’re difficult to beat. That said I just don’t like the Seamaster 300. It just does nothing for me and I really don’t like the extended lugs, the bezel insert or yellow lume. Oh and PCLs. They shouldn’t be on a rugged diver.

I do love the planet ocean though. And the Aqua Terra. The Globemaster is pretty sweet too.

Somebody said it doesn’t get more iconic than a sub. Whilst totally different I’d argue the Speedy pro is just as, if not more iconic.

Hi Raza — I was expecting to hear the pros and cons of both timepieces. And I got those responses - overwhelming for the Sub C ND.

So sorry but I didn’t make myself clear on my initial post. It so happened that an opportunity arises to get both timepieces from my AD and I’m tempted to go for the Omega Seamaster 300 60th anniversary route for several reasons:

1. I like vintage reissue pieces and this Omega fits the bill nicely.
2. I like to have a Seamaster 300 to go along with my other vintage Seamaster timepieces from the 60s.
3. I have the moonwatch Speedy and would like to add a Seamaster to my collection.

On the other hand, I am a big Rolex fan (that is shown on my monicker) and while I have a Hulk I would like to add a Sub C ND to my collection.

At any rate, thank you for sharing your thought on this query of mine.

Thanks for showing the comparative side by side pics of those two timepieces!

Thanks mystro! I’m not a big fan of the ploprof, in the same way that I’m not a fan of the SD variations. I have a small wrist and my max is at 40mm. Noted on your comments of the Seamaster 300. I shall ponder more before deciding.
