Question
Is it unreasonable to ask a Rolex dealer to get in a sub date stainless steel and date just 41 jubilee and fluted bezel, dark rhodium dial in at the same time to decide which one I want! Or would I have to just accept that they come in when they do and I have to make a decision with out seeing them both together?

They are totally different watches so a direct comparison is impossible.
It may be a logistical improbability to have them both in store at the same time. Having said that i suppose it depends upon your relationship with your prefered dealer. It may be more probable to have the DJ in stock then give you a call when or if the Sub comes in which is much more than likely going to be already spoken for. I have the same dillema as yourself with regard to the White and Blue SS Skydwellers. In all likelyhood i will have to make an independent assessment of the watches and rely upon my best judgement. |

Yes, it is slightly unreasonable.

Yea, the subs are just difficult to get in these days. I was in the local AD this week and he got two subs in. One was sold immediately and one was on hold and sold in like 2 days. They don't last long in my parts! I would ask the local AD to just call you when one came in and look at the closest DJ for as good a comparison as you'll get.

You want a Dealer to invest in specific watches so that you can look at them.

Submariners sell like hot cakes and so do date justs. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be around for long and I would buy one or the other!

Buy both, keep the DJ, and sell the Sub for profit
To be serious, though: I don't think dealers can simply pick up the phone and have watches sent, especially the steel Professional models. Perhaps you can look at a variety of watches that are available in the display case, and use a little imagination to synthesize a view of the two you're choosing between. For example, a two-tone Sub with a black bezel and dial may give a good enough impression, and perhaps there are enough Date-Just models in stock in various configurations to help you decide what you like and move off of the mark. |

People on TRF have reported being quoted over a year on the waiting list to get hold of the Sub Date in the UK. At best most average Joes will be having to wait months to get one.
And even if the AD happens to have one in his safe, he's unlikely to want to potentially irritate the intended buyer of the watch by letting another punter try it on. Personally I would want my multi-thousand pound watch fresh out of the coffin. So if it were me I wouldn't even bother asking a question for which there is only ever going to be one answer. |

any secondary market dealer in the UK will have both. Use them to try on watches, i do. There are several with stores.
They have the stock so they also deserve tire kickers with no intention to buy from them. |
