Buying a Planet Ocean. I need help..

Hello Everyone. I'm looking at an nos 2018 PO with the 8500 movement. I didn't care for the new one 43.5mm (2020) at the AD, it felt a little large and thick. A few things i prefer on the older version looking from the ad online is it looks like a matte dial, bezel and is advertised as a 42mm. What i really was wondering is about the size and wearability. How does it wear compared to the newest model? Question > Is it a true 42mm as advertised? and also importantly > Does it have an adjustable clasp like the current model. I can't try it on before i buy so if theres any advice or info that someone can comment of the differences I'd surely appreciate it. Im looking to hopefully buy this 2018 from a trusted grey dealer, nos, full set w/ warranty reference no. 232.30.42.21.01.003 . Thank you everyone..

That's going to be hard without being able to try it on. All I can say is that my ex-2500 42mm PO wore about the same as my new 43.5mm PO.

My sense is the watch you're looking at wears a bit less tall on the wrist, but its lug-to-lug dimension will seem longer because the old bracelet pivots from a different point on its end-link than the new bracelet does.

Consider the lugs on the 43.5 are curved so it wears smaller and less thick than it actually is.

Honestly, go try both on before you decide.

I’ve had 2 stainless versions of this watch as well as the titanium one I have now. I found them great to wear. Very comfortable. I have a 7.25” wrist. That model does not come with the micro adjustable clasp but you can buy them easily. They are a very accurate and legible watch. I love mine.

8500 PO by default does not have any micro-adjustment clasp, good news is it has a bracelet with the screws so if you decide to upgrade the clasp - all you need is a new clasp (no need for extra endlinks).
It is 42mm from 8 o'clock to 2 o'clock, as advertised. It is pretty tall watch tbh.

For me, there is a significant difference in watch hpresence between 8500 and 8900. 8900 is only 1mm taller but in overall it looks and feels noticeable bigger than 8500.

The cases on a number of omegas, including POs, bulge out farther than the bezel, so they tend to wear a bit smaller. The 42mm PO wears like a 40 or 41 imo, but the 8500 is a thick watch and a bit top heavy. I found it tiresome after a while and sold it for the titanium version, which I much preferred. Titanium is where it’s at on the PO’s (unless you want to go for the 2500)

i had a planet ocean 8500 42mm

i felt it was too thick and sold it for that reason. it only has a half link and standard dive extention link (not very practical)

the only work around through this is to put it on a rubber strap

I have a 2900.50.81 Cal 2500. I have a little over a 7” wrist. Watch fits perfect especially on the rubber.

I also had the PO8500.

I found its weight and thickness unbearable. It’s really heavy and the center of gravity is too high.

Try it on before you buy it, you might hate it and their resale value is squat.

Thanks to everyone, so far so good, still shopping. I found another AD today (non boutique) who has this one, its a new 8900 but its not the latest liquid ceramic which I'm not to crazy about the shinyness anyway and he seems like he'll be aggressive on the price to move it as I know it's been sitting, gonna give it more thought than if i decide we'll deal im sure. Still a little on the fence on the weight, maybe see what the deal is on titanium (thanks hedet). I'll keep posting.
Looking at this one now, liking it too, nice slim case and tapered lug design make it look smaller

Looks to me like that current model PO fits you pretty darned well. The weight and balance of a steel PO are what they are, and I think the decision is simply whether the titanium watch has weight/balance that you prefer.

The PO is a watch I love the looks of, but find it hard to wear. I used to own a 2500 model which I sold to obtain a more wearable Rolex Explorer. Since then however, the sizes have gotten worse not better.

I finally discovered the (as good as it’s going to get) Planet Ocean for my 6.75 wrist. It is 39.5 full black ceramic case, rubber strap, and white gold indices piece. The lug to lug size is a bit narrow for its thickness of 14.5mm, but it works. Being that it’s a full ceramic case, it is light enough and I can wear it all day and weight is not an issue. I’m super happy with it and it has become my favorite everyday watch. Why? Because the dial is easily readable at a glance and it can go anywhere, including swimming.

I own some hard to get Rolex pieces, but they don’t get as much wrist time as my PO. Also, given that my PO is all black, most people can’t tell that I’m wearing an expensive time piece. I travel quite a bit for work, that’s a good thing.

If you’re interested, David SW has a 42mm titanium Planet Ocean for sale and I think it already has the adjustable clasp on it. It looks to be in good shape. He is a very trustworthy seller. Here’s the link:

Thanks, I saw that one, it's an 8500 so its a few years old, so far I've got it beat on a new black 8900. He's the man though, always a great selection and 100% trusted. I visited him once when i was in FL Top notch operation.

Yes. I’m a fan of the 8500 movement. It’s tough and accurate and it’s offered in 42mm which i think is the perfect size for this watch. The titanium makes it extremely comfortable. Mine has become my favourite watch.

My wrist is 7.25”. I’m biased as hell but I think this is the best looking and wearing PO. The only other one that comes close is the LMLE in black and red. I just think it’s a classy watch.

Looking good, the lugs curve nice, like the new ones? I guess which make it wear smaller than 43.5 suggests. New one feels like @ 200 grms. I'll bet yours is 125 ish? I'm going to try on a new Ti monday for a feel. The heaviest i have now is 155grms. but the substantial weight gain a on a steel PO does seem proportioned even though it's thick the bracelet seems weighty enough to keep it from being top heavy. Im just trying to be 100% I don't want to be sorry later. Your blue does look good, the new one i saw didn't jump out to me like the black one. Thinking....

I had never weighed the watch until now. I have one link out of it and you were bang on at 125 grams. The black one is nice and the bracelet design on the new ones allows it to wrap quickly down from the watch around the wrist. Because you have a 7” wrist it won’t make much difference between the two. You’re right that the bracelet balances the watch nicely too. I had 2 stainless PO’s and they were comfortable as well. People complain about the thickness and the sapphire case back. To me, the case back design is very rounded and allows more movement without the edge of the watch digging into my wrist. If you’re not wearing a dress shirt all the time, it’s a non issue.
