Searching on this forum?

about a week ago, i realized when i'm using the search tool through a sub forum like the for sale/trade sections, that the results coming up are from like 2015, when in actuality, there's new posts literally the same day... so ie - i search 214270 for the explorer, knowing there's a thread on the first page, but the search results are showing me something from november 2015, and no - it's not in old to new order... tried clearing out cookies/cache and logging on/off to see if it'll do anything but no changes... anyone else experiencing something similar?

Narrow your search in "Advanced" down to the past 2 weeks and that should take care of it.

Also having issues with search.

Example:
Search for 5711 returns results from June 2020 and earlier.

Is there anyway to search exact words, like you can with Google?
I tried searching for vintage chronograph. And it gives me me all threads that have vintage and all threads that have chronograph, not just vintage chronograph.

In Google you can use "phrase" to get the exact words you want. Or use -, to exclude any words you don't want.
I cannot find any similar functions in the search field here.

Yes, I searched for Zenith before posting as it showed nothing for the new Sport. Suffice to say when I posted, I got attacked. So yeah, the search is wonky

Yes, I noticed that the other day too but since I seem to be having other issues I figured it was my phone.

Try using the pull down box and choose "Search Titles Only" under Key Word Search that looks like it helps...

I have just selected advanced search.

Entered the model and the model number.

Selected titles only.

Selected only ‘Rolex watches for sale’.

They arrived in the correct date order as from today.

I saw no issues.

If I leave it on ‘search entire posts’ and don’t deselect the default ‘search all all open forums’ then all the wheels fall off.

Yes, I’m experiencing issues as well. It doesn’t search recent threads.

It’s old technology, so search is not as easy as what you’d expect for 2021. But I can usually find what I’m looking for, 70% of the time.

When doing a search you should take into account the following:

1. The search function searches the database you specify.
2. Databases are updated 24-48 hours so don't make a post and think it will be instantly searchable.
3. When making a search appreciate there are over 11,000,000 posts to search (if you search the entire website).
4. If you make your search too wide, you will get dozens/hundreds of hits.
5. It is recommended that you first go to your designated sub-forum to search.
6. Within a sub-forum click on the drop down "search this forum" tab and ensure you are searching titles only. This searches only the headings and not the body of the posts.
7. If you are searching for more than one word join them with a + sign so it could be Uncle+Seiko.
8. If your search is too generic (wide) the search function is unlikely to return the results you desire.
9. The search function works, you just have to use it properly.

The most likely reason your search result is not showing your listing............

Its your computer, that is the problem, more particularly your web-browser.

Your web-browser caches pages from all over the internet including TRF and you probably have 100's of megabites in cached webpages and history sitting on your computer at any one time.

So typically what happens is you do a search say for "116500LN" and you see the results.

The results URL might be something like this:
https://www.rolexforums.com/search.p...rchid=28519647

Your computer saves this page in your cache.

Typically then you search later (hours or days) for the same thing (116500LN) BUT in the mean time you or someone else has made a post/thread with the search term (116500LN).

Because of caching and history from your web-browser and how it connects with TRF the post/thread that have been posted since your first search are not displayed.

However, if you go into your browser and delete cookies/history and try the search again your missing post/threads should now appear in your web-browser.
