G-Shock Mudmaster NATO strap mod

I recently purchased a Casio G-Shock Mudmaster (ref. GWG-1000-1A1) primarily to use for hiking / backpacking. While the resin strap that comes with the watch is actually not bad, I always intended to fit a NATO strap to the watch; this post describes that process and the result.

First thing to note is that in order to fit a NATO strap to a Mudmaster, custom-made adapters are required. I ordered mine from here: https://www.shapeways.com/product/PP...li=marketplace, selecting the “Black Premium Versatile Plastic” which ended up being a pretty close color match to the watch case.

I also ordered a 24mm NATO strap (I purchased a Barton strap from Amazon, but I suppose any 24mm strap will do). Once the adapters and strap arrived, I was ready to make the change.

There are plenty of online videos describing how to remove the original strap, and the entire process is very straightforward. Overall, it took me less than 10 minutes to complete the job, and that included grabbing the few necessary tools from the garage.

Overall, I am happy with the change. For me, the nylon strap is more comfortable on the wrist, and while I went with a solid black strap for now, I’ll probably order a few different colors to play around with.

Sorry for the low quality pictures, but I think they give an idea of the outcome.

Nope, it’s locked in place pretty well. I haven’t detected any extra movement on the wrist.
