Polished Centerlinks to Brushed?
Anyone try refinising their polised center links into Brushed Center links on their new SS Bracelets or TT bracelets?

Question was, has anyone tried to convert their polished center links to brushed, and if so how did they do it? (Seems many on this forum don't like the new polished center links on the TT models or new SS models, but like all else on the watch, so if they wanted to or did convert, how did they do it?)

i guess one could use a fibreglass pen or a sandpaper sponge to apply the brushed finish you so desire......patient is the key and apply each stroke in 1 direction only.....
i wouldnt do it.....

Just go to an AD who has an onsite repair facility, and have them convert the polished links to brushed - easily done from what I understand.

Chad, the question is,why buy a model with polished centre links in the first place ,if you dont like it or find it unpractical ??
The other question is how will you influence its value ? Buyers dont like "modified" Rolexes . The answer to the question is leave it be. |

I have a question. For example if someone buys the SS GMT 116710 the new version with the polished links is it possible to purchase a band that is brushed? For example a band from a submariner. If yes what is the cost of it? I believe that polished bands are to blingy and can be easily scratched. I think that the best way is to purchase another band and change them over time yourself. It sounds more practical and you keep the polished band also in storage if you like it without scratching it. What do you think?

one of my associates who deal with used watches told me that......by trading in a old ss sub bracelet for a new one......it is around S$1500 to $1800.....
to purchase a new bracelet without a trade-in will be considerably more expensive..... i have no idea exactly how much it costs but it is certainly no small change

1800 is a lot of money for a band. I thought that iw would much cheaper something around 800 dollars lets say. This means that the half price of a sub is it's band. It is a bit weird.

I had not tried it, and I would also not tamper with the original design of a bracelet.
If it has polished centre links, it has polished centre links. Period! Tampering with the bracelet would mean destroying the originality. If one does not like polished centre links, one should go for a Rolex that has a bracelet without polished centre links. Of course, there could be a problem if Rolex eventually chooses to add polished centre links to ALL of their watches, but I doubt if Rolex would do this change on the Sub Date SS and the SD. Only time will tell, Rolex won't (before it's too late and you already have the change!)

THe reason is on the new SS GMT II, many like the newer model due to improved movement, maxi dial, better lume, nonreflection cyclops, etc. And many like the newer bracelet for the summer extension, better clasp, solid links etc... But many do not like the Shiney center links. And the polished center links are more prone to scratches. I agree, if you are only buying the watch as an investment, then of course you want to keep the watch in the original configuration. But, if you want to wear and you do not like the polished center links then how do you convert. Right now if you only want brushed you have to go with the older models.

i think that the best solution is if you own two models of watches. What i mean is for example let's say that you have a sub with a brushed band and the 116710
gmt master. You can take the brushed band from the sub and install it on the 116710. What do you think of this guys? It sounds ok to me |

Can not do, due to different lug sizes. Plus why would you want to do that, as the newer style bracelet and clasp is so much better than the older version (smooth clasp, clasp does not stick out, summer extension feature, etc..)

The new style bracelets, have a mini-extension that you can do and undo. Helps to very quickly adjust the bracelet size for expanding/shrinking wrist size encountered during summer heat, temperature variations, or sports activities. Very inovative design.

I still trying to imagine how the sub is going to look like. I am trying to put a ceramic bezel to a normal sub through my photoshop just to see how it is going to look like. The result of course is that i really suck at photoshop and i got pissed off so i didn't complete my photoshop masterpiece.
