1972 Oyster Perpetual date

Hi, I'm new in here, I work in a jewelry store, recently my watchmaker cleaned a "1972 Oyster Perpetual date" for customer, but he complains the watch is fast 5 sec/day, is he too picky or our watchmaker is not good enough?

A little of both. It's within COSC specs---4/+6 sec. a day. It could be adjusted better. The real issue is consistency. Rolex movements are among the most consistent movements you'll find.

As mike said, it is still keeping time within COSC specs, but minor adjustment will correct, but no matter what you do some people are not happy.

Why doesn't he take it to Rolex and pay $500 to get it running +5sec/day

There is another way to make the watch lose time. When are going to sleep put the watch with the dial up or down. I dont remember which one is for gaining or losing time so ask somebody in this forum. there some people that are doing this on an everyday basis and their watches are gaining or losing something like 1 or 2 seconds pre day. Try to find out about this and you are going to be less worried for your watch and you are going to save money from servicing the watch.
