Pre-owned Explorer II 16570

Looking at pre-owned EXP. II 16570's. I have researched the different serials..Lume, upgraded movement, holes v no holes.
Before I drop close to 5 G's on a 10 year old watch, I wanted to get some input from the community.
I like this watch as it flies under the radar, and I am currently leaning black, and F series or newer.

Is the model a solid investment? I'm not looking to make money...but don't want it to drop out.
This is going to be the first Rolex in the collection, and have been going back and forth for a while on pre-owned Rolex verse newer, or more recent "other"
(Such as the Omega 300).

It's well regarded here. It's my favorite white faced sports Rolex. I suggest getting one with Solid End Links.

No one will be able to say whether or not you should buy it.

IMO, it's undervalued. Seems to fetch lower prices than a Sub or GMT. One day, prices will rise.

I think any steel Rolex is a solid choice as long as you buy right.

Best prices, in excellent condition, I have found is 4700 dates from 2003-2010. None have service history, which factors in potential service.

I recently picked up a no-hole SEL polar 16570 off of ebay. No papers, no box. I cannot stress enough as to how stressed out I was with the purchase until the day it arrived, as promised. It turned out to be a very nice one indeed. Looked too nice to not to have been polished but it was done very well. Lugs were still sharp, bezel still had the correct "grain" I took it to be authenticated by a local watchmaker. That checked out too. I think I got it for a fair price, at the time. I know its too soon to really say with total certainty but prices seem to be a few hundred more than what I had paid for it, as per ebay prices.

All in all, I am very pleased with the purchase and I absolutely love the watch. To my eye, the 16570 has better proportions than the "bloated" 216570. It really is a comfortable watch compared to a vintage speedy pro. The Omega's clasp seems to have some sharp edges that I've never noticed until I wore the Explorer for a month or so and then switched back to the Omega. I really like the 16570. I don't see how you could go wrong if you go with it.

You can't go wrong with a polar.

You should be able to pick up a really nice example with box and papers for 4200-4600. I'd say the white is more desirable and I think it's a very solid investment. They're beautiful watches that imho are very undervalued. If I could only have one watch it might be a polar 16570. It's the true tool watch in the Rolex line up. Get in touch with HQ Milton, they should be able to sort you out.
