While I have not seen either in person, I prefer the WG model. That could change after seeing both on my wrist. I highly suggest seeing both on your wrist before deciding.

Ahhh mine are all white metal (stainless I can't afford the WG) but I think you could make a mistake here and buy a coloured gold and it doesn't suit you whereas the WG would suit?

Just a thought however your post makes a good point too.

All the best from the other end of the M8

I like the understated aspect of the WG- The dial would not be my choice personally, I would go with the blue.

Both wonderful watches. I generally prefer white gold as there is something special in the sheen/feel over stainless steel. But, I would have to say the olive & rose gold combo looks best. How that translates to one's own wrist & lifestyle is a personal choice. Cheers!

Interesting point as we know that Rolex does not make a stainless steel DD40.

So unless the onlooker is that well informed to know the watch is a Rolex DD40 and it only comes in platinum and white gold, the average uninformed onlooker may well believe (I assume) the DD40 in white gold to be stainless steel.

I find the whole argument for and against the WG quite entertaining.

I can see that in some situations the RG may be too much or sending out a signal that may too much, but on the other hand to some the signal that WG sends out may be ambiguous too and not 'gold' enough

I understand your dilemma. While I have not seen either one in real life, I am going to go for the RG in a few months. And I can't wait. When I first saw a photo of the Olive Green dial on the RG, I thought it was the most beautiful watch I had ever seen.

My dilemma was whether or not I would think the RG would have too much pink in it for me. That all changed when I saw it in real life the other day, and although my AD did not have one with the green dial, I knew that I would love the RG. It is not nearly as red in real life as in the photos.

I love the Olive Green dial so much, that I got an OP34 with that dial a few months ago. It is stunning as well. The Olive Green is my favorite dial, so when I finally get the RG DD40 I will have no problem owning two watches with the same color dial. Even without the OP34, though, I would still go with the RG.

It's a shame that more guys don't go for the OP34. Yes, it is a smaller watch, but it does still have a good wrist presence with the slight cushion shape case. Just my .

It will be interesting to follow this thread and see which one you end up with. You cannot go wrong with either IMO.

Cheers,
Carl

It is a wonderful dilemma! I felt that the RG might be a bit much as well, as I had only seen it in photos. When I tried on a DD40 the other day with the RG I absolutely loved it, and found it looks a lot better in real life. The most beautiful RG I have seen in any watch. It was, in fact, difficult for me to detect much red at all in some of the lighting conditions.

My dilemma was solved a few months ago. I can't afford the DD40 just yet, and I saw the olive green dial on the OP34, so ended up getting that. It is a stunning combo as well, as I love the warmth of the Rolex stainless steel.

Cheers,
Carl

Stunning. Apart from the gorgeous dial, I think that the choice of the applied Roman Numerals on both the RG and WG really enhances the look of the watch. In combination with the all gold hands and fluted bezel, they all catch the light in a beautiful way at all angles. The case size is perfect, and the President bracelet a work of art.

I think that this DD40, especially with this dial, is one of the best executed designs of any watch - bar none.
