Missed the boat on Daytona 16520

So now that the prices for Daytona 16520's have basically doubled in the past year I'm just giving up on finding a reasonable one. I like the modern 116520 but really wanted a zenith. Most have convinced me that the 16519 (white gold) is not that desirable and the latest Daytona is equally expensive and I won't buy into that. So I used to have a big block which I really liked and although it was cool, future investment is always a nice addition. That leads me to the Tudor Monte Carlo. There are some great three register fancy dial Monte Carlos out there that can be had I the $8-$12k range. Any speculation on the future of the Monte Carlo? I don't want to sound too investment only but if I'm spending $10k on a watch I would prefer to wear one which apreciates in the future. It's a pretty funky dial as well and truly to me has all the function the Daytona should have had but just a little ol 7750 working under the hood. Thanks for any thoughts. I'm still trying to find a sub $16k Daytona too (don't laugh at me)

I have been down this road if you are smitten with a steel Daytona only a steel Daytona will do. I can't imagine a sub $16k 116520 isn't available somewhere but I may be wrong. I suspect they mostly will be ever bit of $12k now. Tis the world of Daytona we all should have pulled the trigger when we thought $10,500 was too much to pay but hindsight is 20/20.

Big blocks and Monte Carlo's have done pretty well from what I can see. If that's what you like, get one and be happy.

I do agree with the above post, though, that if your heart is set on a Daytona, then hold off for that.

If you're looking for an investment, then you're right, you've missed the boat. But hey, there's a lot more to watch ownership than money.

Speculation is rocketing these references into the clouds.

I would try to find a crisp pre-owned 116520 for under $12K...but act fast as these are fueling for liftoff as well

As for the Big Blocks, get a nice one for under $5K and you will be ok.

Avoid the $8K or $9K ones that the hypebeast vintage mavens are pushing..

I think the Big Block Montecarlos are too $$$ already.

Seems to me the 16520 skyrocketed right after the Paul Newman auction. Could be speculative, depends on how many bites are happening on these newly adjusted higher prices.

The zeniths got hot before the auction. I passed on a full set for 9.5k a year ago. bought the same watch 2 months ago for about double that.

The monte's and exotic dial BB's are very cool. The issue is finding one with a nice dial on the monte's. Good luck with that. The exotic dial or monte dial big blocks are a little more attainable. I got one recently and am very happy with it. Unpolished and a nice dial to boot. I would get a bb monte dial or exotic dial. Lots of room to run and still very cool. I think they will catch up to the Monte Carlo's price wise just like the matt dial 666 did with the 1665. You can get a really nice one in the low teens. I would anticipate a nice move upward on that model. Find a grey or blue dial if you can. They seem to be more sought after. It is a beast on the wrist like a 1665.....

If pressed I would pick the 9430 over the 16520. I also think the 9430 has more legs to run price wise and many fewer produced......

Beautiful. Are the two subdial or three subdial rarer? I like the clean look of the 2 dial but prefer the functionality of the three dial.

2 dial is the early monte Carlo. Rarer. The three dial is the monte Carlo dial BB. Still hard to find but more plentiful than the monte. Hence the reduction in price. But good examples rarely find it to market. More often traded amongst collectors. Get a 3 dial monte BB. Can get for around 10. Will jump in value. Trust me.

I can choose between a 3dial with fixed bezel or rotating hour. Personal preference or better choice? Thanks.

Personal preference. I would get the nicer case and dial before I would focus on the bezel.

Definitely. The dials on the earlier ones like mine tended to degrade and many tend to show bubbling.

The rotating bezel is more unique and therefore tends to cost slightly more.

Does $15K sound a bit steep or right for this model even if in great condition? I can go back to my original idea of a Daytona 16520 for $2K more
