DD 40 vs PP Aquanaut Jumbo

Good day, TRFers.

I've been enjoying this Aquanaut for years. Love the size, style, build, sapphire casebook, history and versatility.

Just acquired this WG DD 40 and am really loving it. For essentially all the same reasons (except the caseback of course).

Which do you prefer? Should I flip the old PP and just move forward with the DD?

Thanks for your thoughts, as always!

Flip it for a 5164. Quite a few PP guys are having this thought now. They would make quite the Power Play pair.

I would keep them both. There are certain things about the PP that you like that are not on the DD so both together would essentially give you everything you want.

Go rubber on the 5167 and you’ll have a versatile pair

Your Patek bezel is in amazing shape! Mine couldn't handle just a few months of wear. Do you do sports or you're just really looking for sporty look. Obviously for true wear the Rolex is the go to imho. The Patel never held up well, sadly.

Point very well taken. I wear the PP as a 'sporty dress watch' instead of using it as a real 'sport watch;' have Sea Dweller, Speedy and Seamaster for getting dirty....

I'm new to watches, but the Rolex is much more pleasing to my eye than the PP. I didn't know what a "DD" was last night so found and was looking at them on the Rolex website. Might something I aspire to! Your model looks much better than many others I saw there.

Both look great! If I could only have one or the other I'd keep the PP. To me, it's the more interesting piece.

DD in, PP out. The PP dial seems designed after a black basketball, never liked that. Not bashing on PP though!

Hmmm... sell the PP for as much as you can. Old design and old movement plus yours looks good now. Patek has had problems polishing the 5167. Do a search.

Not a fan of that aquanaut at all.

I would definitely flip it and get myself a 5712 or 5990.

Very difficult decision. I’d say the DD...by a slight margin

The DD 40 nails it. What a nice feeling it must be looking down and seeing the wonderful, dark face of that DD staring back at you and that beautiful president bracelet. Very nice.

I’d say flip the PP. I never was a fan of the Aquanaut but if it was a 5711 then it’s a totally different story.
