Decided to check accuracy

I have now owned my first Rolex, a 114200 Air King, for 10 years. It is probably the closest watch I have to being a daily wear because of it's size and comfort.

I decided yesterday to check the accuracy against the NIST atomic clock online. Being that it has a hacking second hand this was easy to do. The results: the watch gained approximately 6 seconds in 24 hours. I was going to reset it but today I head out of the country for 8 days so I am going to leave it alone and re-test when I get home.

Does this seem about normal considering the age and it has never been serviced?

Yeah...it's OK.

When you get back from your trip, you may want to see a good independent watchmaker, if you have one, and get it regulated. Simple, 15 minute procedure. And while he's in there, he could pretty much tell if it needed servicing or not.

Those orange and blue concentric dials are ticking up in price these days. I remember when they first came out in 2007 the ADs could barely give them away, now they’re coveted

Sounds good for a older watch, within the Chronometer Certification from COSC standard.

Chronometer Certification from COSC, a mechanical watch movement must vary no more than -4 to +6 seconds per day variance from a constant source in a 24 hour period.

What a unique dial. Lovely watch. How do you find the size on your wrist?

Yet also better is possible. My daily wearer 2017 DJ36 has been running for months at +0.2 spd. To get that I have to place it correctly overnight (crown up).

That is normal for a watch of that vintage to run 6 seconds a day out of the box.

On the balcony of the ship off the coast of Honduras. It was hard to get a good picture because of the movement of the ship, as well as the wind.

I used this piece of information. Mine has been running +6/day so I stored it crown "down" like stated in the information in hopes of correcting the inaccuracy. In 8 days it was +42 seconds, so it doesn't seem to have made much difference.

Beginning tonight, I will store it crown "up", as it seems to imply it will slow it down even more.

+6 for a 10yo unserviced watch is pretty damn good actually.
