I called RSC Toronto today...
I asked if they have replacement linen dials for the 16030 DateJust. The service person was not sure what I was talking about, but she was aware of tapestry dial.
The reason I was asking was because the 16030 is about 23 years old and there is some minor dial age spotting, and the hands have some wear. I asked if they still have replacements for these that are in Tritium, and I already knew the answer which was "no". I also asked if they can replace just the hands. She claims that the hand colour may not match the old dial, and if it is technically possible they can. However she did say that Rolex will usually try to put the watch back up to specs else, if the customer only wishes to change the hands with no movement servicing, they will refuse to do the work. I say darn.... My question to the vintage lovers here, should I just leave the watch alone as it is mechanically sound still. I just don't get any lume on the hands, but the tritium on the dial is still visible after being in the dark for at least 30 seconds when my eyes have adjusted to no light environment. Thanks, Vernon

Vernon, my first thought without seeing the watch is to leave as is. If it needs a service, that's fine as a new acryllic crystal and gaskets will insure waterproofness.
I'd imagine the lume your getting from the dial is the posphors in the paint reacting to light. The tritium is about gone. |

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the comments. I've attached a better close up of the dial. Below the 9 o'clock baton marker, there is a slight spotting, also on the 8 o'clock baton marker, but the marking is slightly hidden in the shadow. The minute hand you see has some wear. Should I leave it be?

Boy Vernon, It looks pretty good to me. The trit dots look good for the vintage. I really think the spotting is minor. No sure how RSC Canada operates. I wonder if the dial can be cleaned? I could go either way on the hands. Is it possible to get old parts back up there?

Thanks for the thoughts Mike... since the dial mark does not concern you then shouldn't be a biggie, its the first time I see a mark on dials so no idea how severe it can be.
I think I'll hold off for now since the DJ is keeping good time. Thanks again for your help, Mike.
