What makes a "Buckley" dial? Are only those with painted Roman numerals AND a chapter ring considered Buckley?

Your correct and they come with generally black hands originally as most are beige or white if 100% correct cheers for the blue Buckley white hands ( not my watch) and rarer charcoal black dial also it has gold hands. They made black hands for some day dates right through see my 1988 example crown collection.

Yes dial fits the same.

I remember waaaaaaaaay back when...when John declared that the dial was now "the Buckley" Amazing it went viral across the entire world of Rolex and is now universally known as "the Buckley Dial"

The white one with the black hands in steel and gold has always been one of my favorite watches. On a leather strap it is perfect.

The Buckley black on plain white is my favorite. In about 1980, while I was oilfield trash, I bought a two-tone Datejust with that face (paid around $1100, I think). I wore that watch every day. in the early 90s I took it to a local jeweler for service. They ended up sending it to Rolex it Dallas. It never came back.

After some wrangling, I got a new two-tone Datejust from the jeweler, but the black on white Buckley face was not available. The new watch had gold Roman on a champagne face with gold hands. I never did like that watch. I continued to wear that watch but every so often I'd look around for a Datejust with black on white. Finally, a couple of years ago I bought a watch over the internet that had the "correct" face. Unfortunately, as I found out later, someone had the face replaced but did not change the hands or date wheel.

I was never quite satisfied with the watch and would occasionally search the internet for the combination I wanted. I found a few but they were all earlier models (apparently Rolex didn't offer the black on white on recent models).

I recently took that watch in for service and in talking to the jeweler asked about having the date wheel and hands replaced. He said he thought he could do it but would have to check. Turns out (according to him), that Rolex never offered black hands for that model watch. He was able to get the white date wheel and ended up painting the hands black. It's not perfect, but it's as close to my original Rolex as I can get.

I have just came from my wacthmaker because i want to replace the dial on my DJ 1603 with a buckley dial i bought on ebay... (see the picture below)

He said that the dial doesn't fit with the 1570 movement...

I saw in the reference of the envelope of the buckley dial this numbers 313-16030 but i supposed that would fit. Can it be done? or my watchmaker is right?

1603 and 16030 use completely different dial. Do NOT try to force your dial on a 1570 movement... if need be, buy a 16030 and sell your 1603.

My '76 1600. Used to be mounted on an oyster bracelet but changed it to a jubilee to make it look dressier.

These really are amazing - especially the blue! I see one on chrono24 that says it is a purple dial...but they must mean blue, I guess. How many different colours did these dials come in?

I've seen: white, black, light gray. dark gray, tan, champagne, dark blue, medium blue. The purple is most likely blue that is turning with age.
