My second gripe about rolex is the lume. First being sapphire glare

Agreed, lume doesn't stay super bright for very long but, albeit dim, it DOES make it through the night.

Rolex lume is not the strongest. Some members here will claim it works well all night but I can only believe they have the eyes of an owl. I find it usually good for about as long as the movie lasts, and even then give it a good charge with your cell phone light before the lights dim and the previews start.

you would think with all the money we pay for these things, the lume would be better. hows the lume for a new just out of the box? i suspect wear and age plays a lot into this

Every night as I'm going to bed, I shine a small LED flashlight on my GMT. It shines bright for about 20 mins then settles into a normal glow that I can see all night. I do think my SM 300 Master Co-Ax is a bit brighter. My 16622 YM isn't as good as either the BLNR or the SM 300

My sadly departed SD didn't do too bad. Well, maybe I pushed some sliders a little too enthusiastically in Lightroom.

Not sure age has anything to do with it, on the modern watches anyway. My GMT was brand new from an AD and the lume has always been rubbish. As per a few other comments on this thread, after a reasonable charge up it is good for minutes at best, not hours, and certainly not through the night! I would agree that for a supposed premium product, we should expect better. It's certainly not what I would expect of a "long-lasting blue glow" (per the Rolex website), but it's not bad enough for me to want to sell the watch and go for something else. There's also plenty of awesome involved in my GMT so I'm still happy with it, despite the lame/lume. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't do anything to "charge" my Daytona, and once my eyes adjust to the dark, I can see my lume (and the time) pretty much all through the night. I'd say it lasts a good 6-7 hours before I can't see it anymore.
I'm not expecting it to be glowing when I walk through a shadow. |

My 114060 and 116613lb last through the night which is all I need. I had a Tag Aquaracer that was brighter but not sure if it went all night. I presume everyone who has watches with brighter lume are also getting 8 hours readability?

I wear my watches while sleeping from time to time. My Rolex is the hardest to ready at 3-4am. Black bay is pretty easy to read and my Panerai is definitely easy as can be. I can tell the time at arms length, where the black bay has to be closer and the Rolex makes me squint to read it.

I agree, best I've encountered is the Omega PO series, has anyone done a side by side with the Tudor Pelagos?

I use a phone often in this situation but I try not to use the phone argument on watch forums. You see this come up a lot when people say they dont need a date on their watch because they have a phone......and im like....if your looking at your phone for the date you can see the time so you don't need a watch so your argument is invalid. Lol. I feel the same can apply to the lume topic. Nobody really needs a watch or any of its functions in this world of technology but if I want to use my watch as a tool and I cant read it at night it makes me sad.

If lume is your thing, look elsewhere. Like a Pelagos.

GMT IIc and Milgauss, lume is fairly useless on both. If I charge them well at 11pm, they are unreadable at 4am, so I have no idea if I have two minutes before the alarm or fifty.
Pretty sad that I have to supplement with a $25 solution that has awesome lume. |

The lume is not great - but it does not bother me. I rarely actually NEED the lume. If I really need to see the time in the dark, I'm reaching for my cell phone.

I guess this was my point. What are you using for your alarm in the morning, and I would imagine that it should be able to better provide the time in the dark than your watch?

I do wish Rolex lume could be better. But when you wear a tritium Rolex for a while and switch to the Luminova ones, you realize the lume is adequate. The latest Chromalight is another improvement in the right direction, but still nothing that will sear your retinas at night.

from an applications standpoint, the only activity where dimming luminova might become a real issue is for those who actually use an explorer 2 for cave exploration...which is probably few at best.
can you imagine having to recharge your dial every so often with a flashlight while deep underground? this makes a strong case for using Indiglo. |

It's become such a routine over the years I do it with out much conscious thought, which reinforces the OP's original complaint that clearly the lume doesn't last long enough. |

The weak lume is a surprise to a buyer, hence this thread. C'mon, they could fix this. And it's not like it's some romantic legacy "Ah yes, the lume only lasts a few hours, but that's because back during WWII divers didn't want to wake the squids when they were surveilling U boats" or some myth like that. |

Lume on my Omega Seamaster is much better than any of my other watches, I don't own a Tudor yet though.
