Has anyone ever 'swapped' watches with a forum member?

A recent thread on here made me think of this - and wondering how many of you have done it.

Lets say you are considering watch XYZ, and before flipping yours, buying new one and then having regrets, etc - it would be great to 'try out' another watch for a week or two to fully decide - with almost no downsides.

So the question is did you or would you ever swap watches for a limited duration with a trusted forum member?

No. I've had members generously offer to meet up and try theirs and I've made similar offers but never so far.

I'm not doubting that it's happened before, but the logistics sound tough. Finding someone that had what you wanted, and wanted what you had - AND was willing to do the temporary trade would probably not be a common occurrence. I'd have no probably swapping watches for a night at GTG with the usually Philly crew, but other than that, I don't think so.

You'd probably have as much luck swapping wives as watches

It's a great idea. The thought has crossed my mind before. just like buying from another forum member, it's all about trust. The hard part is figuring out all the logistics. It does pose quite a bit of "what-if's" that would need to be worked out. Maybe the mods should ad a borrow my watch thread!

I would be 100% careful with the watch, so much that I wouldn't be able to enjoy wearing it IMO. I've let people try on my sub before, but never out of my sight. Maybe one day :)

I think it is a bad policy to loan anything out.
I lent my pressure washer to a good friend last week and he put a wrench on the hose valve, cross threaded it and messed it up good. Now will take money and time to fix.
Everybody has the best intentions but gets weird if something goes wrong.

Yeah I would agree - might be too much at steak to 'loan out' and then hope it comes back in same condition, vice versa, etc.

I'm usually of wary of being responsible or being on the hook for 'others' possessions / valuables as well.

I would trade with someone I trust but don't trust anyone outside of personal friends or family to swap for a period of time. Now that I think about it I probably wouldn't do it with most of my friends or family, either!

I've done it once with another member of this forum. Even though we live about 2K miles apart. All went smoothly. I've done multiple deals with the same guy since.

I've done it and it worked out perfect.

Did a straight up trade - My TOG for an Explorer , If either one of us wasn't please we could return it and get our watch back. We were both perfectly happy with the trade and it worked out great. TRF is a great place with plenty of trusted people here and the person I did the trade with I would trust with any of my watches.

Interesting idea. I haven't yet, but I'd definitely consider it with the right forum member. I like the "test drive" idea.

TBH I trust some members here more than some family members, but it's still not a good idea, too much downside if things go wrong.

Not a chance. Too many things could go wrong. For instance, if you continued carrying the insurance, but it were stolen while they had it would insurance pay the claim? No idea, but I do know insurance companies will do everything in their power to deny a claim. Also, I don't believe either of you could insure the other's watch due to not being the legal owner of the watch.

Assuming that I've known the person for a while and that I trust him, I would be up for a temporary swap.

They're only material possessions. I would lend my stuff tI people or I trust. I've lent my cars and motorcycles out, for instance, for months at a time.

I haven't but there are a few members here I know and trust. And even if something went wrong, I know they'd make it right just like I would. But most of these people are those with whom I've bought or sold watches, so I've likely already sent them $3-10k ahead of time and waited for a watch in the past.
