Battle of the Green DD40s (POLL)

I am really close to pulling the trigger on an anniversary Green DD 40 dial.

The dilemma is which material?
RG or WG

I have seen the RG in person and it's absolutely stunning.
I am eagerly waiting to see the WG in the flesh, but haven't been able to find one in my area at any ADs.

So the poll here is this:
If someone offered to give you one of these two,
Which would you choose,
ROSE 228235
or
WHITE 228239

2016-10-03_01-19-35.jpg2016-10-03_01-19-57.jpg

p.s. apologies if this poll has been done, but please play again

I voted WG, but I still can't warm to that dial. They did a poll here amongst young people asking what did they think was the least attractive colour? The reason was all cigarette packages were to be made in this colour to hopefully turn people off smoking.

You guessed it, the colour was olive green.

Interesting point, I live in the U.S. so have not heard that.
(But I did look it up and learned something tonight..)

However, the green on this dial in person is really gorgeous.
It's a shimmering and alive sunburst olive green that changes and dances in the light, not a flat monochromatic olive green.
And looking at some of the cigarette boxes in olive green, I honestly don't dislike even that green.
So if I was a smoker, that color would not deter me one iota. Luckily I am not...

Battle of the Green DD40s (POLL)

I can honestly say I would be happy with either option as they are both gorgeous. All I can offer to help differentiate is that the WG, to me, comes across as the safer, more conservative choice, whereas the RG is more outlandish. Again, I could live with both, so I wish you luck in making your decision.

Edit: I love that they have matched the colour of the writing on the dial to the case colour, because to have done anything else would have been a tragedy.

The issue is perhaps not the dial...which is nice but has slightly poor legibility in low light. I particularly found that in the car, where I couldn't easily read the face.,the silver face is much more legible.
The thing about the rose gold is that it becomes very ostentatious, even a bit 'flash'. Which is always a personal choice. I chose white gold, but then sold the watch and got a new Cellini. Mainly because it flies more under the radar.
So, it has to be your choice. You are buying the watch to please yourself after all.....

I went with WG.
But the RG green dial combo is also amazing.

All depends on whether you can pull it off or not.

I've not tried the WG, but I have tried the RG and it looks amazing on the wrist. I wanted to try the green dial DD36 and the salesman showed me the 40 as well. I still love the vivid dial of the 36, combined with YG, but the RG 40 was really something special and even my wife loved it despite not particularly liking Rolex.

Personally, and it is a personal opinion, I just don't get the point of WG and to some degree Plat either. If you're looking to fly under the radar, while wearing a watch that's only available in PM then fine, but where there's a SS option that would always be my choice.

In the past I've always loved cars that are fast but don't look it (Ford Cosworth Scorpio anyone!), but now I'm in a blacked-out Alfa coupe. Perhaps I'd have gone for WG when I had the Scorpio, for the feeling of having an expensive PM watch that nobody else would know about, but now I'm taken by RG/SS watches so who knows.

For me easy choice the WG - it looks perfect with the olive green dial. In my opinion it is the best DD40 yet and can't wait to get one! It is currently backordered right now here but I expect mine any day now as ordered it a while back. The RG is really nice but the WG is perfect!

Rose gold all day long, watch looks warmer and more appealing. Seen the YG and green face today. In the latter case would prefer WG.

Man speaks truth. But handle both for yourself, decide when you'd likely wear the thing to get the most use and decide accordingly.

I have several RG pieces, the RG in this model works so well because of the olive dial color, it subdues the gold from being 'slightly pinkish--think ceramic daytona with the black bezel' to more mellow tone.

Specifically for the green dial model, I think the WG just has that extra bit of special to it and the WG/Green color combo just works together so, SO well. Thusly I bought one. The rose with the green just doesn't do the same thing for me (though I wouldn't have gotten a colored gold watch to wear all the time, wrong image for me personally). HOWEVER, the rose with chocolate brown with whatever motif that is and sticks is THE way I would go if I were to have gone RG vs WG. I can tell you however that the DD40 is easily one of my favorite watches I've got, so you can't go wrong there!

(this was 10 seconds after unboxing it)

^^Thanks for all the great feedback everyone!!
Currently poll is just about dead even. 38-37 RG
Tried this on a couple days ago... Absolutely stunning in person!!
Now I just need to find a WG and try it on to make a decision.
Currently having trouble hunting one down in my area.

The green dial is still growing on me, there are others I prefer. But having seen both in the flesh I think the green goes better with the Rose. No wrong or bad choice... Good luck!

I personally like the olive green dial and don't think people in the U.S. would have as negative a reaction as the same place where they had the cigarette poll was taken.

I think the WG will be more versatile, but I kind of like the RG... it's unique looking.
