Made that mistake ages ago. 1675 Pepsi GMT. I would say that just about every trade/sale I have made has been the wrong choice...so now...just buy and build.

So it is up to the individual. I was happy to be able to present my commissioning son my 16750 (and first and only) and he was happy I kept it. Current Exp II will go to the next son. My wife so far has refused to part with her wedding present DJ 26mm.

I've never actually sold a watch. I have a couple that sit in the safe and never get worn but I can't bring myself to sell. I'm too sentimental.

I bought my first (TT Sub) new from AD in 1986. Wore it as an only watch for years.
In recent years it got no wrist time, and I seriously considered selling it. A few months ago I put it onto leather. Bingo....now it gets wrist time again.

Why keep something you don't use? Sell it. Personally, I'll never sell my first, a 116710LN. It's the one perfect watch for me and was a well thought out decision before buying. In fact, I deliberate so long on decisions over luxury items that I honestly can't see myself ever selling a watch from my small and modest collection.

I did I had no choice, I had to sell my gmt2 LN along with a few other bits and bobs to keep our house my wife wanted to sell her dj but we held on to that, Now I have a new gmt 2LN and I'm building a nice extension on our house, for me I'm glad I had one to sell.

Sold my first because it was a DJ and a means to buy a submariner but I'll never sell that because I'd like to hand it down to my boy one day. Since then I bought three othe rolex's and flipped many other watches to get those!!

Initially I would have said never sell your first Rolex as it has special meaning. But then I changed my mind.
I wanted a more expensive watch and I needed to flip it to get it, so I changed my mind. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’d keep the first ... and second and third... I plan on amassing a nice collection to pass down through the generations so long as I don’t go bankrupt along the way.

I’d let my first Rolex go if it no longer held my attention like it once did. In fact I did get rid of my first - the DSSD. Traded it for my grail, a GMT2 Pepsi. Now THAT one is here to stay!

Maybe if my first was a different Rolex i would. Seeing as how my first was a sea dweller I would not want to give or sell to someone else, thats just me.

Should have bought a 16710 as my first Rolex back in 2002'ish. Didn't. It was 'too sporty'. Bought a black Datejust instead, which I liked but never really 'loved'. Went back a few years later and traded it in the towards the current bluesy. I could have kept it and sold it now for a profit, probably, or just given it to family member. oh well.

My first is the 116613LB, and I can still look at the sunburst dial all day (especially a sunny day). I wouldn't sell it to be rid of it, but I could well flip it towards the full YG.

My first, a none date Sub, holds so many memories and emotions, I know it's only a watch! Then every purchase since has been an event and the AD I use always states that if I sell a watch, I would have to pay more to buy it back.
I have not traded one yet and I shall hand them all to my son, some will be of interest and I hope that he cherishes them. He has his grandfather's and cherishes that. Would I sell my first? No! I still love it, wearing it now. Santa is bringing Mrs Kevan a new one! She still has her original. |

I wore my DJ pretty much every day for 31 years, until I got the Daytona. Now I wind and set it and wear it for a day or two a month. Yes, it was my first nice watch. Yes, I loved wearing it and have never regretted getting it. Yes, I was married in it and did all sorts of fun things with it on my wrist.
But I think I would sell it if it was worth more. Especially if I got another watch to complement the Daytona. I don't have kids to pass it on to, and don't really see why watches should have this "I'd never sell it" bond. I don't have the tux I got married in. I don't have my first car. This watch wasn't smuggled out of Europe Pulp Fiction-style. It's a great commercial product that was somewhat mass produced that I enjoyed for a long, long time. I clearly am in the minority here, but that's ok!

You always remember your first, besides it's more of something you can pass on to your legacy.

I flipped a DJ to a BNIB 16610 that I sold approx. 9 years later for nearly 2x what I paid for it. On paper it was a good move and helped fund an 116610 that I thought I wanted. I don't miss the DJ, but that particular 16610 had been through so much with me that purely on sentimental value, I wish I had kept it!
I have bonded very well though with my current dive collection, especially the 116600 that I flipped my Sub C LN for nearly 3 years back! |

I sold my first DateJust a few years back, but I don't miss it, because I prefer black dials. I wear this instead.

My first Rolex was a 1601 DJ and I enjoyed wearing it but I did part with it after owning it for a couple of years.
