DJ41, Rhodium, Diamond, fluted, and jubilee

I've been thinking about adding a dressier watch to my SubC and went to Torneau to browse earlier this afternoon. I tried on the DJ41 with rhodium dial and diamond indicies. I love everything about the watch, especially how it sparkles in the light. It's above my budget and therefore I'd need to trade in my SubC in order to buy this one. Trading in my sub means the new DJ41 would be my daily watch.

I'd love to hear your thoughts regarding (1) whether the watch is simply too flashy for a 26 year old to wear everyday, and (2) whether the DJ41 would be as good of a daily watch as the SubC is.

There my be an incoming soon!

I wouldn't trade in the sub, IMO. There are plenty of great DJ41 combos within your budget that you don't have to trade it in and you have the combo you set out for in the first place.

If you think it's too flashy you could buy without diamonds and fluted bezel. Fine as a daily.

100% too flashy for everyday beater.

I wouldnt trade the sub for the DJ. Just save a little more and add the DJ

They are quite attainable with a little saving. We not talking $25k or more here so its ok.

I own your potential DJ41, and I also own a SubC. My opinion is that you cannot wear the DJ41 fluted/jubilee as a daily. It is too formal and dressy. I really enjoy wearing it when I dress up at a minimum of business casual and higher, and especially with a suit. But the DJ41 doesn't work so well with shorts and a t-shirt, and it does not work at all with flip flops (in my opinion of course). Anything less than business casual dress and I am rocking my SubC which I really enjoy wearing.

My best advice: get both!! But if you can't get both, I think that the SubC is a better all around versatile piece.

P.S. My DJ41 has stick markers, not diamonds. I can only imagine how much more formal and dressy the diamond markers would make the DJ41 feel and look. Not a bad thing at all; in fact, I saw one in the wild the other day and I really liked how it looked with a suit. But I don't think it would go very well with anything less than business casual.

I rock my 41 in crocks after working in business casual all day. Mine is more toned down with flat bezel and oyster bracelet 126300.

I am married and too old to care what I look like after work

Agree 100% I have an SD4k and a DJII 116300 and they are both great daily wearers but if had to only have one, it would be the Sea Dweller.

The fluted/Jubilee combo on the larger DJ41 is pretty flashy by itself. I don't normally like diamond dials on men's watches. The only exception for me are the DD40 with the baguette diamonds. That dial looks awesome. The Rhodium Stick is a great dial. Any combo of bezel and bracelet will work. Rolex lets you dial up the flash to meet your needs with this watch. I think if you skip the diamond dial and go for the Fluted/Jubilee you will have all the flash you need. It also looks great with a smooth bezel on the Jubilee and a relative bargain combo.

I have both and really enjoy them. SubC came in 2014 and wore it all the time, casual thru business professional. When I was promoted to management, enter DJ41 (2017)White dial with stick markers, fluted bezel, and jubilee bracelet. Stunning piece if I do say so myself.
I have a few watches in between these two. I feel very comfortable wearing my DJ41 with a crisp Ted Baker polo, J. Crew chino shorts, and Bally loafers. Sometimes I enjoy the way it wears in leasure settings more than professional attire.
When the sun or light hits the bracelet or the fluted bezel look out!
It’s absolutely mesmerizing in my opinion.

I’m on the younger side so that’s how I roll.
God Speed on your decision!

Cheers

Beautiful choice of DJ41.

Keep the sub and add the DJ41.

Wouldn't trade it in the sub. Not a chance. The DJ would be a great complement to the sub though but you're doing it in the right order- sub first.

Same here. The Sub is a staple in any collection.

The DJ41 diamond dial is a gorgeous watch. I'd trade the Sub-C in a second for that watch.

Assuming the AD gives me the trade in price that DavidSW offered, I'm trading in the sub for the DJ41. Although I understand that the sub is a classic and necessary for every collection, the DJ41 really sings to me, whereas I'm underwhelmed by the subc.

I've got two 41s.
one I wear for work in the oil industry the other(fluted jubilee ) is more for my leaisure time .
The one with the fluted bezel on a jubilee gets noticed all the time , my rhodium dial plain bezel that I wear for work never gets any attention which is what I want.
I have a few other Rolex including the Hulk , Batman and a Gold Daytona and I've not been wearing any of them since I got the 41s.
I'm actually thinking of getting the 41 gold steel Wimbledon soon

If trading in the sub is the only way to get the DJ then do it!
Buy an invicta dive watch to beat up and wear the DJ whenever you like.
Also, don't "trade in" the sub you'll get robbed. Sell it

Hey - I am also in similar predicament and will need to trade to get my new watch.
a) due to cost b) i feel one luxury watch is all i need

I have a blue milgauss which I purchased in 2015 and I am looking to flip for DJ41 Rhodium with diamond markers, fluted bezel. I saw this recently in person and feel it is the right time to upgrade after 2 years.

From the AD I received an offer of £4750 for the milgauss which I feel is a little low for a watch with 3 years warranty and in mint condition. There was no movement on the RRP of £8350 for the DJ. So I am looking at £3500 to upgrade my watch.

I am also unsure whether the DJ will be too dressy for everyday wear considering I wear my milgauss everyday. I see many have commented the same but its a beautiful watch!

In regards to opening post I do think if you cant afford it - you should have both. Any advice to me in my situation is appreciated - Thanks all

I traded my DJ36, my daily for 15 years...

...for a Sub Date...

Wore the Sub for four weeks but found it dull and so traded it for a DJ41...

...ah... bliss once again.

I'd advise cutting out the diamonds as in the UK they're usually reserved for women's watches, but I appreciate you're not British.

lose the diamonds...they're for ladies!

that aside, it will take whatever you throw at it, unlike your subc which has an achilles bezel.

And Achilles bracelet. The jubilee is far harder wearing than oyster as the small rounded links don't show scratches like the large flat ones of the Sub.

This is my only rolex and is perfect for me in business casual or crocks after work god forbid.

Nobody notices it as a Rolex which I like

That rhodium dial is awesome! the varying combos on DJ41 are great and can change the watch completely for example fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet would make it so different to yours
