Dial defect

Hi all I'm new to the forum.

I purchased a new daytona 116509 from a reseller online and unfortunately noticed it has a defective number 8. It seems as if some dye has leaked around the numeral.
The watch is in otherwise brand new condition.
Planning to take it to an AD, hopefully a relatively simple fix? Any ideas or input would be appreciated.
Thanks

It’ll be a re-dial I imagine, unlikely a repair to the existing one.

Have you had a conversation about it with the reseller?

That would be my first move.

Dial defect

I think you need to demand a refund. Rolex is unlikely to help you without a sales receipt from the AD. Replacing the dial would be quite expensive and the only way to make it right

If the watch is new, it is under warranty as long as it came with a valid warranty card. That is clearly a defect.

Not necessarily. it could be a bogus dial and/or a poorly re-dialed one.

The validity of the watch may also be in question...

This is correct. If the OP bought it with a valid warranty card just take it to RSC. They will replace the dial for you.

Doesnt matter if your name is not on it. If it has been opened by an unauthorized dealer then you have a problem.

You probably will need to buy a new dial then which will cost you probably $1-2k I'd imagine for this model.

Re-dial means the same as to repair the current dial. Replacement is not considered a re-dial.

I agree. I find it highly unlikely a defect this obvious made it through Rolex quality control. I would be concerned about authenticity.

You are correct.

To clarify what I meant...Rolex will not re-work (re-dial) the existing marked dial, they will only replace with a new one, thus this needs to be a warrenty claim otherwise you’re going to have to pay for the Dial and a complete service to boot. That will cost you probably in the order of Ł1200-Ł1500 would be my guess. I don’t know if the chrono hands on a Daytona can be re-used once they are removed or not. If not you’re into buying a replacement set of those as well for the sub dials.
You might get lucky if it can’t be done under warrenty as it may just be a bit of dirt of some kind (it happens). If so a competent watch maker should be able to clean it off by simply dropping the whole movement out of the case without actually having to disassemble the hands as well.

X2. There seem to be other “ issues” with that dial. Good luck getting it corrected OP.

Did the watch come with a Rolex Warranty card? If not then a visit to an AD isn't going to gain you much. If it was a grey market reseller, they probably have their own warranty and they should address it for you. If you have a Rolex warranty card then this is a job for an RSC. AD would not be able to deal with this other than to send it to an RSC for you. I prefer to do that myself.

Thank you for the replies.
I contacted the re seller and came to an agreement.
Attached is another pic, it's a lot more difficult to see the defect without close inspection.

The watch has a warranty card from 2012

I have noticed a couple of other watches online with what appears to be a similar defect on the 8 on the same dial.

Has anybody come across this before?

In my opinion, I'd ask for a full refund. Too many question marks for me.

You can see that clearly with the naked eye. A loupe is not even required to see it.

So any explanation from the seller? Is the dial original to the watch?
