What should I do?

Good morning TRF
I just received my BLNR two days ago. I had asked the AD to place a leather strap on it before shipping it to me

When I received it I found that tiny scratch. Looks like they did it as they were putting the strap on

I sent a text to the sales associate and he said to come in to have it bugged

1- should I accept that?
2- does it affect the value of the watch?
3- is it worth it to ask for some money back or even a full return if people feel it’s bad enough?

personally i dont think it makes the value much less. its on the backside. id mention it as you did but wouldnt touch it. just use it as leverage for the next watch purchase.

remember when you let them size or change straps this can happen. never let them size or change another strap for you.

I would just leave it. Clearly it happened when they were putting on the strap that you requested. As it isn’t a factory strap or option for that matter it would be hard to get too upset over it.

It happens. Looks like a tight fit anyway, with the leather chewed up where it meets the case.

That's definitely due to strap change
Very hard not to have it happen. They really needed to tape the lugs

But as someone said changing straps is not technically authorized by Rolex. Regardless it's backside you will never see it. I would not get them to touch up area that will be unseen. It won't be your last scratch for that matter

It happens a lot of the time when AD's handle Rolex watches without adequate skill and tool. I would leave it.

And no, I do not believe that little scratch would affect the watch price at all.

It's normal for Rolexes to get scratches on the backs of the lugs from bracelet/strap changes. Yes, it's possible to avoid them, or at least minimize them, by using the utmost care in combination with a tool like the Bergeon 7825. But even the most experienced and careful people will have a springbar leave a scratch on the back of a lug on occasion.

For me, the question is, why in the world would you put a leather strap on a brand new, unworn BLNR?

Those (back of lug scratches) happen even with adequate skill and tool. They come with the territory if you're going to frequently change your bracelets.

As most have said. I wouldn’t sweat it too much. I think an AD should be proficient enough on bracelet adjustments etc. not to scratch the lugs. But in this case you did ask them to put on a non-OEM strap and the fit may have made it tight enough for them to struggle a bit. Still doesn’t justify a scratch but might be enough to not want to cause trouble over it.

Some days everyone will tell you it's absolutely not accepted and the AD should be hanged/feathered/tortured/killed (take your pick).

Other days (like today) it's all fine and don't worry about it.

I dot like to see scratches, hence not liking the CPL. that’s why I wanted them to change the bracelet. Also I have a SubC and wanted theBLNR to look different from my sub with the Rolex bracelet

I wouldn't worry about it too much if possible. They should've used the springbar pliers mentioned above and or taped the lugs to avoid that. It happens but at least you won't have to worry about the bracelet scratches now that you were concerned of originally.

Looks good on the strap. I would be a little ticked off that they scratched it, but I wouldn't make a fuss about it. Its hidden, common blemish, and it shouldn't affect the enjoyment of the watch by you or any future owner.

I would make them aware as you have, but I would leave it. Also I have to say normally I am not a fan of the straps, but in this case I think it looks great!!

Let it be, polishing that area will cause more damage. Your fault for letting them do the strap change. If I scratch my own watch it's ok/ oh well

You should see how many scratches I have on the back of my BLNR from changing straps. And the watch is only a few months old. Live with it, and add your own over time as you switch back and forth between straps.

It's upsetting enough to put that first scratch on a new watch yourself. When an AD does it that's worse. If it was me, I'd see what they could do to make it right. It's only brand new once.
