Which would you buy first (Daytona or DD)?

As I narrow down to my top two favorites, I think over the next few years I’d like to buy a Platinum DD (36mm) and WG Daytona with the blue dial. It looks like an older Plt DD can be purchased for about the same price as the relatively new Daytona right now. So, outside of personal preference, is there a reason to chose one over the other right now, with the assumption that I’ll buy the other one in a few years? For what its worth, I'll probably never feel comfortable paying full retail for a brand new platinum DD.

Between those two, the Daytona for sure.

Now, if you were talking about the DD40...

Daytona = a bit sporty

DD = more formal

IMHO it all depends on what you tend to do within your daily life / lifestyle, and the timepiece you wear while doing it. i'd choose the one that gets worn the most first.

The DayDate is a wonderful wear anywhere watch. I've worn one for many (multiple decades) years. It goes with suits to shorts. The one I'm wearing now was bought in the mid 80s and looks good and keeps excellent time. I have a 40mm GMT but prefer the 36mm DayDate and DateJust.

I owned a WG DD 36 and it seemed top heavy. I also owned a yellow gold Daytona and it was much more balanced. Both watches had gold bracelets. Bottom-line, try both on and see which is more comfortable. I ended up flipping both watches and now I only own watches with leather bands because I find them far more comfortable than braclets. I even find this to be true with my 2 platinum watches which tend to be heavy. That's my experience but I know many, maybe he majority, prefer bracelets. That's why it best to physically try them on and then decide.

Both are PMs and both should be available; buy the one you have more use for. For me a DD is an every day watch. The Daytona is a bit less necessary as it lacks date capability.

The DD is more versatile, you can buy it right away and even get a discount when buying one. The Daytona is more of a consumerism, fad thing: hard to read the time, no date, a chronograph you’ll probably never use. By the way, I own two Daytonas.

Got it in one.

I love the look of chronos except for wearing them to tell the time! Far too busy on the dial.

And wearing a watch without even the date...I use it too much to be without it.

I just wish Rolex would release a SS DD.

That would be top of any Rolex purchase bar none for me.

Id go DD, that said I have a 36 dd and am thinking more towards a 40mm dd. I appreciate the daytona but far to busy for my taste.
