Thoughts on this Airking please

I've taken a flyer, ahem, on this. Hoping it's just earlier hands and not a complete mishmash.

No movement shots, terrible pics, thoughts?

Cant evaluate with such poor pictures. Why the pictures are so blurry in 2017 only makes me think that something is being hidden. Hopefully it wasnt you that bought it OP

Ha, those pictures are AWFUL. OP, if I were you I'd turn off eBay when you're drinking in future, but I don't think you got killed here, watch looks genuine and counterfeiters don't aim at AK 5500s anyway. Post some decent pics when the watch arrives, and if you don't have Polywatch on hand get some so you can get to work on that crystal as soon as it arrives.

Yes, I'm the buyer. My spidey sense thought people would stay away from the pics, and it doesn't always indicate a setup, though of course it can do. I like this model, and can't afford a top notch example just now.

I'm used to seeing newer hands and service dials, so this is unusual... Hopefully not a wholesale transplant into a later case, in which case it would get returned (it's covered by eBay).

I'm due to pay monday. Thoughts?

Ben

...now the sensible voice on my shouder is saying: 'Ben, really...would you do this with vintage music gear unless you were 100% sure..?' to which the answer is: 'no, never.'. And I have 30 years with vintage music gear...whereas I 30 weeks of picture-gazing, reearch and forum reading.

I'm not normally given to this level of risk-taking, so the cold feet are setting in (the money is not throw-away-able). Any more opinions would be welcome. Perhaps I'm just pushing too hard for my first Rolex...

Since it was eBay, you can always return it if it is not as advertised. When you receive it, take some clear pictures of the front, the back, the open clasp, etc, etc. and we would be happy to evaluate it for you. If you have the means, a movement shot would be best for evaluation.

Mid to late 60s dial and hands, Bracelet is probably a later service replacement. I think anyway, those pictures are more than bad

Yup, I thought the same on the dial and hands, hence my transplant guess...the case dates to 77/78, and I agree the bracelet looks like a standard service replacement (if not one of the many fake 78*** bracelets doing the rounds).

But yeah., I don't get a good feeling about this, espcially the assurances it's 100% genuine...even the quickest search of google would have shown up the hands if nothing else...I did ask several times for a movement pic early on.

....which begs the question, why did I bid on it...? Hmmm, good question....

I'm curious, did Rolex ever use a cardboard inner box with foam slotted to hold a watch in place?

I know that they don't address the box as an integral part of the auction but by it's being included in the photos it implies something.

I thought the same...it either implies a complete naive disregard for what is obviously a less-then-stellar imitation box (pre-school 'make-a-box' day?) or acomplete naive disregard, and all-round 'ooooooppppss' moment.

Steering a mile clear. Not sure what caused my sanity lapse in the first place...uni...xmas...work...who knows...?

Will keeping looking.
