But I have to say that as far as querying the price of expensive watches goes, if you own a Rolex, or any other "luxury" watch, then all bets are off.

The point being if you own a $10000 watch you've already gone way past the point of rational decision making - after all you could buy a quartz for 50 bucks that will easily surpass your Rolex for accuracy - and you're buying your particular piece of pointless luxury for reasons that have nothing to do with practicality or purpose and everything to do with vanity.

In that context it doesn't really make sense to point at a Casio and say "that's way over-priced" because anybody who owns more than one or two watches that cost more than a few bucks each is spending money for more than just pure functionality. Though of course not incidentally any Casio blows any Rolex out of the water for both functionality and accuracy. That MRG almost certainly trumps a Sub or DJ in the exclusivity stakes too.

And if you argue that it's not worth it "because it looks like any other G-Shock" then I could say "why buy a Submariner when it looks like a Steinhart?" (or any one of a number of homage/rip-off models).

A Steinhart looks like a Submariner. Rolex isn’t copying Steinhart.

Nah. I have plenty of G Shock pieces but all in the $200 range. Some cheaper.

I may be wrong but doesn't it say on the link that it has a Titanium case and bracelet?
I like it. Sounds like a quality product although I'm not sure what half of the things it does actually are.
$3K seems a bit high, but hey, it does a lot of stuff.
No good to me, it would look ridiculous on my scrawny old wrist.
I could see the young "Action Guys" going for it as a 'status symbol' around the Fire/Police Station.

Indeed. Which is why I included the phrase:

Yeah the whole watch is solid titanium with a DLC coating and Sapphire crystal. Entirely hand assembled in Japan as well with GPS based time.

It's expensive but then so is a Breitling Colt for what you're getting.

I think that the G-Shock is a great watch and I have worn one for years doing difficult task that I will not use my other watches for. Around $200 is where I am in the game for. I have seen some of the ones for thousands of dollars and would not spend that on the watch.

Negative!! I'd rather spend the 3k on a Tudor or Grand Seiko

Yes I would ... when I ran out of other +$3k watches to buy

MRG are great, they are hand made, all metal, tough, nice use of material, has the latest technology, etc.

Buy them pre-owned and you will get heck of a watch for a lot lower than MRSP. Still, the recent ones are no $400 plastic watch, but they are well built and built to last, as least in terms of built quality.

Paid $800 for my Maharishi collab ed and absolutely love it. Wear it hiking, on almost all international flights and places where I don't want to be overtly flashy. Love the lightweight, look and the world / home time functions are just brilliant. To each their own I think.

I love them and have quite a few. I wore a Data Bank for 20 years. But I would not pay a grand for one.

Props on the Maharishi, I had a grey camo and orangeone plus, a pair of matching Dunks some years ago....

no one is going to be a fan of this either then, I'm guessing...

Zakalwe is right, once you spend more than a few hundred on any watch that's not PM, it becomes all about touchy feely, brand values, heritage and marketing speak, and other emotional stuff, so you can't really throw stones at someone who likes a $$$$ Casio. ( that objectively does everything a Rolex does, but better)

I'll spend more than is sensible on watches, action figures, sneakers and selvedge denim, but probably not more than $40 on a shirt, ( and that's the kind with buttons up the front.) Personal preference and all that....

It's a lot of watch for the money, like many things it will have it's fans and collectors while others won't see the value. Imagine paying $15 million for a 3rd hand old stainless steel Rolex that doesn't even have an "in house" movement!

I think I paid under $100 for my Atomic model. No interest in a $3000 model.

I have a black MTG which looks very close to this one. I paid around £550 for it ( I think rrp is £1000). They are tough as boots and can take a real hammering. If your in the police or forces they make a good tool watch.
