Incoming!!!!! Finally Got It!

So I want to celebrate my 1000th post with a very special incoming. I’ve waited to get this watch for almost a year. Last year I planned on getting it when abroad on holiday and while looking around I stumbled into a Rolex AD, as you do, and came out with the BLNR...on my birthday no less, even though other Rolex Boutiques earlier were saying they don’t have any, so I couldn’t pass on the opportunity as it felt right. Anyway! So then comes January and I end up with an AP RO, and the Panerai gets left behind again but still very much on my mind.

So many months later, I’m focused on trying to make it happen with the purchase of the Panerai. I was going abroad again and thought I’ll see if I can source something while there. I got in touch with one of my contacts and surely enough he had exactly what I wanted and offered it at an amazing price.

So I sorted out payment and I was now the proud owner of a Panerai 422 and back in the Panerai family. The 422 is perfect in so many ways for me. I love the size, when I wear the sub after the Pam it feels so tiny. The 422 has everything I want in a Pam. It has the sandwich dial, the device protecting the crown, that beautiful sensual case design, has the sub seconds that I have to have, the sapphire and that huge exhibition case back. The movement isn’t adorned with glorious finishings like Côtes de Genève etc but it’s still so pleasing to look at. The exhibition on the RO is ridiculously small in comparison, and I just love the all polished case.

And in my opinion the 422 or any manual Luminor is the best type of manual watch to have. It’s the most easiest to wind BUT still maintains a high level of water resistance without the worry of having to unscrew and screw the crown every few days. I’ve heard horror stories of Radiomirs having their threads screwed up, pun intended ;) but with the Luminor you have no worries about screwing and unscrewing to wind thanks to the design of the trade mark crown protector. It’s such a great system for a dive watch.

Okay so enough talk, here are some quick pictures of my beloved 422. I don’t know what it is about Panerai, but the love I feel for this watch is totally different from any others in the collection. It has soul, I told this to my brother recently while talking about my 422 and he laughed at me lol, what a weirdo but then again he isn’t a WIS, but hes coming around slowly. He tried on the 560 and loves it so that’s next I think!

Oh yeah, already got a Toshi strap for it. Love the feel of it, so supple. Need more straps!

Thanks for reading if you got this far. Just wanted to share my journey with you guys.

Nice, looks a bit like my 111, but I see the differences.

Great looking watch and strap!

A big congrats.

Glad to see another guy getting a 422. And you are right about the straps, time to start shopping for straps. Canvas? Ammo? Horween?

Thanks Jim. The dial layout is the same as the 111 but the case shape and size is different.

Very nice collection of straps you have there! Where did you get the last three from, especially the second to last I like the colour on that one.

@ Minimalist

The last 3 straps are horween material. Very soft and comfortable. You can get them from The Strap Geek. His name is Gijs, a Dutch guy.

Congrats that's a beauty, excellent choice!

Currently that is my favorite PAM.
I'm waiting until next year for another purchase but if it was today, that is the one I would get.

You wear it well!
