As a decades long frequent traveler - I’m very much a 1 rollaboard carry on and one personal bag fella.

Wear your suit jacket onboard of necessary. Order a suit with 2 pair of pants. ExOfficio washable boxers. Packing cubes. Buy small toiletries if needed. No problem.

Pre-COVID it was more important to me to have CLEAR+PreCheck. Saves hours every year.

Do this for a few weeks, carrying your clothes, food, and house ……………. then airline/vacation packing light is a breeze !

.....the joys of going solo, being one of 'em!

I have shared this experience during 20 years of motorcycling through North America. I started with panniers and a top box and eventually just used the top box.

In 1987 airlines lost my luggage twice and items were stolen by baggage handlers another time. I have taken one carry on bag since then.

If I need it when I get there I buy or rent.
If I’m traveling in the states and require something that won’t fit, I have shipped it ahead and then shipped it home.

There are occasions where I would like to bring certain things that are not permitted in carry on... I just do without.

Minimalist to the extreme here. First backpacking trip abroad back in the 90s taught me. I pack for 3 days no matter if for business or leisure. If my trip is longer I wash my clothes. I have a nice small leather duffle that keeps me honest. I won’t speak for others in my family as that would be rude :)

Funny how us minimalists seemingly have progressively pared down our gear whilst the overpackers I know seem to go the other way.

Kids have definitely been an interesting wrinkle as they initially would not go willingly without multiple dolls, teddy bears, coloring books and games. Over time I have got them to leave almost all of that behind by telling them that if they have more empty room in the bag, they can bring home more souvenirs.

Lately, the travel game has been upped by them finding one nice item local to where ever we happen to be. They have bought some nice little knick knacks and have really enjoyed adding travel stickers to their small suitcases.
