Las Vegas First Timer - A Little help Please.

Hello.

Four of us are visiting Vegas next week and I'm hoping for a little advise from the forum. We're there for 5 nights and staying on the airport end of the strip. The plan is to do as much as we can as there's no guarantee we'll visit again.

1. Which are the must visit hotels to see? The one's to get the classic Vegas experience.

2. What's the best way of getting up and down the strip? Taxi? Bus? Can you buy an all day bus pass so you can jump on and off when you want?

3. Any bar recommendations? Sports bars especially. We enjoy a beer or 3 and the cheaper the $ the better

4. The weather. Been checking the weather and it's looking red hot but what about at night? Does it cool off? I'm assuming that the hotels will have the air-con blasting so is still t-shirt conditions or long sleeves? This is important as I need to start planning what to take

My first time visiting the U.S. and I'm mega excited, can't wait!!

Many Thanks

Uber for transportation, but a bus takes awhile with stops. Uber is very inexpensive though, that’s what i would do.

Bellagio is a 5*, Wynn is very very nice, Hard Rock has a lot of stuff to look at music wise. Downtown Las Vegas always a happening place. Dam tour is always fun. I’d take a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon. Lots of shoppping at the fashion show mall across from Wynn. Voodoo lounge on top of of the Rio has great views from 50th floor.

Off the strip are great restaurants and even further west in SUMMERLIN there’s a small Rolex AD that not many people know about T-Bird Jewlers, some times they have hard to pieces to look at.

Off strip. Eats: Nora’s, Mastrioni’s, ( Circus Circus Steak House old school.). China town has great options. Golden Steer steak has been the there for 50 years Sahara and the strip. Piero's Italian Cuisine Near the convention center is an old school Italian room with good eats too

Most hotel restaurants are of high quality but not cheap. West gate has updated sports book

Pm is you have any questions, plenty to do here. Where are you staying ? Not to hot at night in September

Have fun

If you want to get the Vegas Experience, you should visit the Venetian, Wynn, Bellagio, Paris,Cosmopolitan, Ceasar Palace, and Mirage which are all hotels on the strip. You can walk but the weather is real hot during the day. It cools down little bit during night and makes the walk bearable. I was there one month ago where it was 110F during day and 98F at night. You can do uber or taxi but they are expensive. Hotels are charging parking for the car.

You definitely need to visit downtown Vegas. You should try buffet and highly recommend the buffet at Ceasar and Cosmopolitan. Those are the two best buffet right now. Expect to eait atleast 1-2 hrs during the weekend.

All the major hotels have sports bar.

Went some years ago now. Used taxis to get around but this was pre Uber.

Don’t recall them being wildly expensive. Did walk a few blocks down the strip in the middle of the day in summer. Hot is an understatement!!

I think it's worth a visit to Downtown Las Vegas if you have time. Take a taxi from your hotel. The light show is cool in the evening, the casinos are more laid back. My wife and I really enjoyed the Mob Museum too.

I think it's worth a visit downtown if someone wants to have a GREAT time. Sorry to be a deal breaker, but nowadays the Strip has become a complete rip off/tourist trap. Nothing is cheap anymore and forget free drinks while you're playing, unless of course you're a big shot. Heck, most of the bars have installed those player rating devices to inform bartenders if your are free drink worthy. Take a walk on the strip to check out stuff and ladies, maybe hit a club or two,but do all your gambling and drinking in Downtown.
Enjoy the USA,my first trip solo back in 1996 made me visit and living there on and off for the following 18 years. And living in Las Vegas was a dream come true.

For first timers, be VERY VERY mindful of how much walking you are doing, and also stay hydrated.

The walk between casinos even if two hotels are right next to each other could take 20-30 minutes. You don't realize until you are there just how much walking you will be doing, mostly on concrete and very hard floors.
DO NOT be fooled - this is by design.
They want you to be tired so that you will sit in their Casino and donate money.

The walk from the Bellagio across the street to Paris isn't bad, but then you decide to check out the Flamingo, then Ceasars, then The Mirage, then The Wynn.
No problem, this path is right down the strip with a couple of ventures across the street, but no back and forth at all. Really easy.
Then you look down at your FitBit (or your smartphone tracker which I use) and realize you just hit 50,000 steps in 110 degree weather, probably including several beers.

I love Las Vegas. Take UBERs and Cabs every chance that you get.

This time of year is not the hottest but not enough. Night time is cooler for walking the strip. Some of the casinos are within easy walking distance, anything outside if your range take a Taxi or Uber (never uber'd myself).

Have a great time, Vegas is a unique spot. Wish I could have seen it in the 60's or 70's.

I'm taking my Fitbit so it will be interesting to see how many steps are taken. I like walking but my missus on the other hand isn't so keen We're expecting everything to be on a grand scale but even so, I'm sure we'll still be quite surprised

Cheers all.

I'm sorry your first visit to the US is Vegas....

My recommendations would be;

Take a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, go with Maverick Helicopters.

Go to the Neon Museum.

As far as hotels go, they're not like they used to be.

Unless you rent a car, Uber is best.

For Pizza GO to Giordanos at Bally's.

Bars? Better stay drinkin' at the Casinos.

Freemont Street, can be fun I guess, if you like to watch drunks.

Vegas is a lot of fun, with the right attitude. If I had to pick one reason I would go back (been 4 times) it would be the Grand Canyon Heli tour.

I forgot to mention, Check out Piero's. Off the strip (Uber/cab required) Classic, old school, Mobster vibe great Italian restaurant.

You can always check out the old strip to get the "real" Vegas old-school experience but it's not my thing. But if you've never been it's worth a short trip up there.

WATCHES: I often go to Vegas for business. I don’t stay at the Cesars, but I found the Cesars to be best for watch shopping. It’s a good place to try on brands you’ve never considered and let yourself be seduced by the pieces in the flesh (Blancpain, JLC, etc.)

Also type “Vegas TGV” in the Youtube search box and check out some of the Urban Gentry’s videos while he was there.

If you enjoy a super-raunchy show (verbal raunch, not nudity), check out Absinthe at Ceasar's. It's like Cirque-du-Soleil meets Andrew Dice Clay meets George Carlin. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I would just walk the strip from one end to the other ducking in the casinos. Uber offstrip to eat. I wouldnt uber past downtown or Chinatown. Vegas has become quite a foodie town over past few years.

Go do at least 1 buffet.

Go see at least 1 show.

Go to at least 1 night club

Go hang out by the pool during the day.

In the evening gamble and drink at the tables

And vegas is not the armpit of america... lol

Categorically incorrect and ignorant all at the same time.
Your opinion is noted, as out of line with reality as it may be.

For shows go to a Tickets Tonight kiosk. Cut rate on same day and next day shows and dining. Red sign you can’t miss them, they are up and down the strip.

Will save a bunch of $$.

For drinking, there are a few casinos on the strip/just off that will comp you drinks even with penny bets sitting at the bar.
You can get fully trashed for $10 a week.

Yeah right. You haven't been to Vegas in a very long time, haven't you ? Getting trashed in Vegas for a night nowadays needs a mortgage..

I go there multiple times a year. You just got to know how to play the game.
(pro tip: Hooters sports bar. $.01 and comped drinks all night long).
