Prague restaurant recommendations
Title says it all. Heading to the Czech republic in a bit and would like to have a nice meal or two. I will only be in Prague (I know there are other cities just won't have time). You guys usually have some good advice. Thanks in advance!

OK, Prague (as most of the Former East Block countries) are somewhat difficult when it comes to good food.
Prague being a Tourist Hotspot, and Especially thick of American tourists seems to make it even worse food-wise. Many Europeans think that Americans only eat burgers and fries, and don't know anything about food, so the chances of getting Crap is very high. My recommendations would be... For Food; "U modré kachničky II" (The Blue Duckling) make sure you have a reservation! For Beers and why not food along with them; U Fleku If you are into Jazz, and even if you aren't! Agartha Jazz Club Have fun, Prague is a cool and reasonably safe city. Just do your homework if you change currency! Credit Cards accepted almost everywhere. Ignore street hustlers.

Thanks, Andreas! I'll check those places out, asap. I enjoy meat and beer, so Prague seems like it would be right in my wheel house
YouTube has a lot of good videos on avoiding tourist traps/mistakes (search honest guide), especially changing money. |

When I was in Prague, I went to Restaurant V Kolkovně for dinner. It is a pub kind of place. I had the roasted pork knuckle and it was very good. Other folks that I ate with liked their food. It was a very nice place to sit and drink a few beers with a nice meal after hours of walking around the city.
Enjoy your time over there. |

I went with someone who is a vegetarian. They have plenty of other options besides pork. I went with the pork knuckle because it reminded of the knuckle I ate at Ocktoberfest in Germany...that crispy pork skin is too good.

Just returned from Prague yesterday, and while I can't say we had any amazing food there my one suggestion would be that if you are even thinking of going somewhere even remotely popular make a reservation! I think we missed out on some better meals due to lack of planning.
If you enjoy cocktails I'd suggest checking out Be Bop Lobby Bar (inside the Radisson Blu hotel). Truly innovative and tasty drinks, and the bartenders were engaging and entertaining. Have fun! |

The rooftop is amazing at Terasa U Prince, especially at dusk. Great pictures up there.
In general it is a good idea to get reservations for dinner. A lot of places will expect regulars, or those who have reservations, to park there for quite a while and drink. My first trip to Prague it was funny how many places would be about 40% empty to be told that they were "full for the night". Near the city center, traditional with good beer http://www.umedvidku.cz/ http://udvoukocek.cz/ http://ufleku.cz/ https://www.pivovarudobrenskych.cz/ Across the river to the East and south a little bit on Vodni - this is a place where you usually see locals getting a quick lunch. They do have a small "traditional" portion of their menu. Beef Goulash with Potato Pancakes. http://www.smichovskevidlicky.cz/ With the exception of the rooftop I would probably avoid the restaurants directly on the square. I haven't had anything bad, they just more expensive and not any better than elsewhere. There is a lot of pork knuckle however I highly recommend duck; a lot of amazing duck dishes. A few bars: American Bar in the basement of the Municipal House https://www.prague.eu/en/object/plac...use-obecni-dum U Jelinku on Charvatova street, little pub a bit behind the Tesco on Narodni. There is typically a farmers market in Republic Square in front of Municipal House, kind of for tourists but also a good place to get a deer (Jelen) sausage and a beer at 10am. Weather permitting head up to the Letna beer garden across the river to the north, great views of the city, grab a Gambrinus or several. If you visit Vysehrad castle (really a park and a church surrounded by walls) a bit to the south you'll find Staropramen brewery almost directly across the river to the West. If you can get out to the east of the city center, Zizkov has a lot of great restaurants, pubs, beer halls. This one is great when it is nice out; https://www.praguebeergarden.com/pub...a-beer-garden/ If you head over to the castle avoid the main entrance, the last time I was there a fair amount of security had been put in place and there were long lines. There is a little path that heads West from Pod Bruskou that heads up the back way where lines for security are much shorter. |

No resto reviews, but
Prague is a beautiful city and a really interesting place to visit as a tourist. We were there a few years ago. Enjoy your trip!

The Prague Beer Museum....a pub...not really a museum. It has 20-30 beers on tap and really good Pub food. It is in the river not to far from Charles Bridge.
Enjoy! |

Is it true the guy who designed the clock in the square was blinded after making it so he couldn’t make another? Or is that just a myth I was told when visiting?

Alcron is a decent restaurant. 24 seats so reservations are mandatory.
