15202st without purchase history
Curious how everyone here on the AP forum feels about this? This is from a current thread (today) on the Rolex general forum. I’m sure this kind of thing happens across all brands in the watch industry. I guess for a 15500 or 15450 it is less bothersome. But when so many collectors who have established relationships with AP (and have spent a lot of money) are begging for an allocation of 15202st, is this sort of thing really happening?! Would AP allow this? I thought 15202 allocations had to be approved by the manager of the boutique? Please see the screenshot attached and the reply of OP to my comment. The original context is that OP posted asking which he should buy a 15500 blue a 15202 or a Rolex DD. Maybe I should make friends in London?

I doubt AP would allow this (obviously). But good for that guy though, i'm not going to hate on his connections.

Yeah me either, you can see what I responded. Not meaning for this thread to come off as like I’m policing the situation. Just genuinely shocked that AP would allow it. Good for him!

If you are the direct relative or close friend of the boutique owner that you can eat&drink together, than ofcourse you can get it without buying 100k of useless watches. Otherwise, dont think anybody in anywhere around the world can get it directly.
Some shops use this relations to feed greymarket too. So, dont panic nobody gets anything free :) |

2016 was indeed a different world. Even 2018, I dare say.
But even today, I am surprised that people are so quick to say "No chance", or "only if you buy X or spend $Y". There are always going to be people who find a way. I didn't have much luck on the Ceramic Daytona before I lost interest in it, but I knew it was possible (even at retail). In this case, I know nothing about the guy that says he can get a Jumbo quickly. Is he a troll? Is he well-connected? Is he a potential whale? Is he an influencer? Doesn't really matter, either he can get it or he can't. *Shrug* If he does have connections, the SA or AD or Boutique must be willing to give up a significant amount of goodwill towards other customers to allow this guy to cut in line. And if that's the case, he must be of some value to them. |

Just got a 15202st as my first boutique AP and second ever AP (not even sure they knew I had had the first one) and with no connections, so it’s definitely possible. You just have to be a lovely guy like me!

I should have posed my question better, sorry guys I was at work when I wrote this . I’m not trying to be one of those jealous people with an, I’m mad someone else got something I wanted thread. I’m happy for the guy if he can get it, that’s awesome for him! The point was simply that I thought AP moved to a boutique only format to avoid situations like this. Meaning an employee can’t sell hot watches like the 15202 to his friends. I would think AP would have to approve the purchase of small batch hot watches with their allocation system? Merely surprised and asking what others thought of this?

My thread should have been worded more directly, the problem I had was with the thought a 15202 could be sold directly to an SA’s friends who have no prior relationship with the boutique. |

There's a lot of I-rub-your-back--and-you-rub-my-back in this industry for sure. Ultimately allocation is down to a select few individuals making decisions that suits their agenda. Maybe his contacts have purchase history? Maybe his contact is an SVP in AP? Maybe his contact is a celebrity or VIP?
