When the AD opens the ROLEX packages...
Hi guys,
when an AD receives a shipment of Rolex watches - how does that work? Does the AD always know when and how many of which watches they get? Or does they open the packages and have no idea beforehand? Can the AD order a certain number of watches from Rolex (for example 10x Daytona steel, 15x Pepsi, 22x Datejust, etc.) or does the AD only gets what Rolex wants? Have a great weekend! Julis |

There is an algorithm that dictates if an AD orders/requests a certain number of considered not sought after/PM models then they are allocated the appropriate number of highly sought after SS models. In other words AD’s have to establish their own purchase history. No surprises there.

I’m very curious as well. I’ve been told it’s a surprise each time but not sure I believe it

The salesperson I work with at my AD told me since the pandemic and reopening they are getting smaller shipments, but receiving shipments a bit more frequently, and they don't know what's in the shipment until they open it.
I think before this mess they did know the day of, or maybe the day before, what they were getting. |

they know slightly in advance, maybe a day or so. However, depending on the AD, the box that arrives may already be "searched" by the main office/corporate. just depends on how things are done. my AD happens to the be the manager and he has told me before that they get 1 of x or 2 of y watches that have arrived, but he is not sure if they will make it to the store as his boss tends to pick through them and allocate all herself.
In conclusion, they do know slightly in advance, but opening the box and seeing what's inside can also be a surprise depending on how the AD processes deliveries. |

Is there an average frequency in how often ADs typically receive shipments, size of shipment notwithstanding?

Caveat is that this process is likely completely different in different countries. I believe my AD generally gets at least two shipments a month. They know pretty much at the beginning of the year how many allocation pieces they will be receiving but they will be somewhat randomly divided throughout the year. Their regular “store stock” models are replaced as they are sold.

I have been told they get every week or so shipments. I think Patek they more what’s coming. Rolex I think manager knows but not but a a few days before. But not exactly. Usually the next day of arrival is when they call. And usually your SA calls you even in manager knows you, they let the SA call you, which I find very nice. Either call or whack depending how busy they are.
My DD 40 they said could be a week or 6 weeks. Today it was almost the 3 weeks , but’s it YG white Roman numerals which I think it’s popular. M Pepsibcame in ten days in DEC 2019. Who what thought a DD would take this long. So you never know.

I was told they have a portal and on it they can view the years allocation based on there accounts history , So it may say four steel Daytona’s, Eight, Pepsi , Six hulks , etc etc, these will be shipped through the year and they have a ability to Request if you like a special order like if a client comes in and asked for a wedding anniversary present but these are very rare extra pieces , It is also dependent on if you are playing straight like filling in warranty cards correctly and removing stickers , Your watches not turning up at Grey Dealers frequently , I was advised a local small independent had stock turn up in Mayfair and was not shipped another Professional model for three months , To help remind him about selling to known clients with a spend history . |

Sounds ridiculously complex. I know of young salesfolk In London ADs who don't follow all forum hype.
It's like working in TK Maxx. They get a shipment. Check the box for the goodies shipped. Oooh watch. I'll put that on the shop floor. Sold. Whilst everyone is having sidebars trying to make a buck to prop up their rubbish wages. |

Rolex Boutique I deal with knows exactly what’s coming. Incomings were within a week or so plus or minus compared to the timeframe they had given to me.

They typically receive an invoice ahead of time listing what's in the upcoming delivery.

I actually don’t find it hard to believe some ADs don’t know what’s due in , Smaller independent dealers will know that I accept.
Now I would think Watches of Switzerland must have there Allocation sent to head office for redistribution among the stores and I would assume big store managers who have high spending clients will get looked after first , leaving the smaller stores with a mix off what’s left and as such won’t have access to the portal that shows this years allocation |

Don't believe any of the posts here, the truth is simple.
Around midnight on the first weekend of each month the Rolex elves arrive at your local AD with their boxes of supply, they check the shops waiting list and leave 1 watch of each type that the shop has a list for, except for the list that you are on, that list gets nothing. They refill the shops window and case displays with all the Cellini's, DJ's and DD's that are not as popular as the waiting list watches and then head back to Switzerland to start preparing the next batch. Now you know.

They know a month (at least) in advance of what they'll get. All the SS models will be spoken for... It's basically that simple.
Even the I only waited a week for my Sub threads here occur because the AD has one come in they called their fave customer on but they pass or don't answer their phone. |

Can you imagine the excitement of receiving 20 Rolex watch boxes and not knowing what is in them. It would be like being a child again on Christmas morning. Then the disappointment of opening each in turn hoping for a Daytona, a GMT or even a Sub but finding only DD's and DJ's. Oh the horror.......

I would assume they definitely know what it’s coming. They gotta pay for them first or at least get an invoice prior being shipped.

From what I have been told by the ADs themselves, they place an order but do not know when the watches will arrive
